HELP SAVE A LIFE BY SIGNING, TODAY! Ask Oprah to do a show on animal shelters, help stop puppy mills and the importance of spaying/neutering our pets.
Dear Oprah, This petition is dedicated to the angels we have learned to call our pets. Each year, in this country alone, millions of healthy, adoptable cats and dogs are killed because there are not enough homes for them all. There are too many companion animals competing for not enough good homes. The overpopulation of pets has become throwaway items to be cuddled when cute and abandoned when inconvenient. Our newspapers and the internet have tons of new puppies and kittens for sale every week. The overpopulation is getting worse and worse. The statistics from the Humane Society is that one female dog and her offspring can give birth to 67,000 puppies. In seven years, one cat and her young can produce 420,000 kittens. You have made a difference in so many peoples lives. You have helped people make great accomplishments. You can help change the difference in the pet overpopulation and more! We are asking you to do, at least, a couple shows a year on educating the world about pets. Scratch that, more shows on educating the world about the pets in our society. Help educate people the GOOD NEWS about our shelters and the wonderful programs that they have to offer the public. Why animals come to the shelters. The kinds of animals that are available for a loving family to adopt into their hearts and homes. Help break the myth and misunderstanding about our animal shelters. Show some wonderful animals who do come from these places and what they are doing today. Have a pet adoption on your show. Help educate people about all the different animal rescue groups and what they have to offer. Help educate the public why you should not advertise PETS FOR FREE! Help educate the public on the services available to help pet owners overcome their pet%u2019s problems. Help educate the public on the importance of SPAYING & NEUTERING our pets. Help educate the public about PUPPY MILLS! Where that puppy in the window probably came from and how their parents are treated. Why they should ADOPT A PET and not buy the puppy in the window. Please help the animals! They have no voice, but you do. Let the animals become part of your angel network! Please sign this petition if you would like to see Oprah do a show on helping to educate the public on stopping puppy mills, importance of spaying and neutering, animal shelters and rescue groups. No animal should be denied the feel of grass on their paws, the warm nurturing of a loving owner's hand, and yet these sad animals go through powerful neglect everyday for someone else's greedy pocket. I hate thinking of a momma dog or cat being bred so much that their body is left saggy, disfigured and never more the same. I have never understood why so many people flock to get 'pure-breeds' when so many animals die everyday in shelter's b/c there isn't enough room. so many people don't get their animals spayed or neutered, and they are also contributing to so many abandoned and/or orphaned animals. it's not fair to the animals to go on through there life in a shelter with the fear of dying hanging over their head, or if not in a shelter, fighting each day for food, water and shelter.

I would like to see awesome pet stories, of a pet who either helped their owner in some way. or i would like broad casted ways to increase your pet's life, things you should have for your pet, and tips to further help you and your pet's issues (like scratching kids or furniture, getting into trash)

I feel that everyone needs to know what is going on with animals in this soceity. Pets are treated so cruelly on a minute to minute basis and I think America needs to know. Oprah can reach millions of people and we need an animal lover like her to get through to people.

I want people to become more aware of what is happening in puppy mills and advocate for animal rights. Animals do not have a voice for themselves so we need to be their voice. I hope I can help by signing this petition.

I think we need to talk about what happens behind the scences and get people to come to a new understanding. Our furry friends need help.

Please do a show on Service Dogs. Our yellow Lab Shanti is trained to help in emergencies. My daughter, Liberte Chan has done several news stories re: dogs who work for us (KCOY). This includes, police dogs, dogs who go to war, service dogs who help owners with disabilities, etc. We need to show how man's best friend really is - they work to take care of us so we need to take care of them - make sure they are spayed and neutered, make sure they are treated well. They deserve the loyalty and care they give us.

I recently visited the Licking County Dog Shelter in Newark, Ohio. I cannot imagine stuffing dogs in a cage, closing the chamber and gassing them. When I walked by these kennels (disgusting with urine/feces, a hard bed and cement floor, no water) and these eyes just look at you. Over 30 dogs and not one barked. Complete fear and sadness. One dog had been severely attacked by other dogs but no one helped him. They just left him in the kennel, up for adoption, open wounds and all. Fortunately a kind lady saved him. Otherwise he would have been killed. Please help stop the maddness. This isn't a "shelter." It's animal Hell. Our government is paying people good money with government benefits to kill these animals. THIS MAKES ME SICK! Please help us!

I am signing this petition because we are aware of puppy mills but I do not think we know the extent of the problem. In our city, our SPCA was able to rescue at least 18 dogs from a mill and by the weekend, there were 50 people waiting in line to help them. :)

People getting help to take care of their pets besides chaining them to a dog house or keeping them in a cage.

I volunteer as a foster mom for my local shelter in Apple Valley, CA. and also for a rescue group known as Helping Paws, we are so full to the brim with beautiful, loving, homeless pets that we have to turn away many others every day. It's heart wrenching to tell a pet parent that they will have to take their beloved pet to the animal shelter where they face a very, very uncertain future, usually death. Oprah please do a show focusing on Animal Rescue groups. Many people don't realize that we exist. If we could get the word out maybe more people would volunteer. We are in desperate need of foster homes and donations. There are more ways to help than adoption.

Anything that relates to Animal Rescue, spay/neuter, behaviour, or where to go if you need help, what you can do to help.

Oprah recently aired a show regarding puppy mills, my hope is that she can carry this story again to assist with the cruel treatment of these animals. It would also be great if she could do a segment on low cost spay/neuter availability.

Need for spay/neuter of our pets

Oprah please do this show.At this time as a volunteer for Animal Rescue Squad I have less than 12 hours to find a shelter for 14 cats & kittens to save their lives. I cannot find a shelter that is not full.People need to be educated about spaying/neutering their pets.Alot of people I've dealt with cannot afford to even pay the amount that low cost clinics charge.Oprah PLEASE start a program to build more shelters and free clinics.God bless you for any help.

Dear Oprah, This crisis is in dire need of publicity from someone like you that can really make an impact and raise awareness. Lovely, wonderful animals are being euthanised because there simply is not enough room at the shelters for all the dogs that are being abandoned.

As an animal control officer, I see first hand the suffering and horrible conditions these puppy mill dogs endure. Most are vitims of inbreeding and have to go through life with all kinds of medical issures.Provided they are able to make it out. And most are breed just for money making. Stop buying from pet shops, that is where most end up. Only buy from responsible breeders. If people looking for a cute pet did not buy from a pet shop. Most puppy mill breeders would be out of business. We also need more stict laws both for these poor souls and more strict laws and fines with jail time for those backyard breeders, who have no regard for the poor little lives brought into the hellhole just for making money.

i rescue tossed away pets daily. what i see is horrendous. I cry thinking of the ones we don't know about. the ones taken to the woods and shot, the one bred constantly and the pups along with the parents not spayed or nuetored to continue the killing. perfect little intelligent animals with no hope. when will it end. when will we be responsible and intelligent enough to know what we are getting into and what we are doing by buying from puppy mills, not spaying our own. we, as caring people are unintelligent about what happens to these babies. or is it that we just don't know.

I love animals so much. It takes more than one person to help. It would take a lot. Your show reaches alot of people from all over the country.

The ferrel cat situation and what people are trying to do to help. Include information on microchiping your pet. We have lost a pet and people may not realize they can take a lost pet to just about any vet and have it checked for a micro chip free. Thank you

This puppy mill thing is the saddest way to make money and the nost insane! There are way to many people with this as thier only income and why do us as consumers go to these places and buy these poor animals. We must stop this insanity and make it a law inforced by our police and put this to a hault. Go to a puppy mill and if you can leave feeling good about yourself,,,go to the heart dodtor to see what is wrong with your heart.... Bev. vines

The female dogs over and over puppy's no food no human contact. No contact to other animals in a stress free and loving envirorment! No love

Animal lover. I believe that some type of donations fund should be set up for spay and neutering. This is the primary reason for overpopulation. People want pets but many are unable to afford the cost of spay or neutering and then end up with more animals at which they dont really want to give up or are unable to find homes for them and the problem just gets bigger. I think if this could be done, it would tremendously cut cost in the long run considering the shelters are full and how much it cost to keep up with supply and demand.

Information on animal behaviors. Understanding the behavior of ones pet is key to successful outcomes of pet ownership and hopefully curb animal dumping.

Im not a huge animal rights person, but there are so many homeless animals in the world, and so many selfish people that go out buying $500 dogs, they get on these year long waiting lists to get a top breed animal all before it is even born, when they could adopt a loving dog or cat that deserves love and attention that needs a home, that is far less that $500 and is already born and ready to go. Its silly that these pour animals have to live like this. Im not sure if anyone else has relized this, and maybe I sound like a nut when I say it but...animal have feelings too! Not just phyical feelings, I have a pit bull and when I yell at him for doing something wrong, I can see it in his big saggy face that I hurt his feelings and he is sad.Animals can be sad, mad, happy, hurt, just like people.

Pit Bulls! I have read so many terrible things about these dogs. People need to look farther into this. I understand that if someone were to see a pitbull at the end of a street they might be intemidated, but just as much as any other dog to me. Pit bulls have the same probility of attacking a person as any other dog. Pit Bulls are much more heard of, but is that their fault? No! Its not the pit bulls! its the owners that make them mean. If there were people who raised labs to fight, and attack, maybe it would be more heard of too. The fact is pit bulls are not mean until someone makes them mean. We have two pit bulls in my family, and I not only trust them aroung my 3 year old, but I trust one with her life. He has protected her from other dogs that came over barking at her, about to attack. He didnt attack the dogs, he simply let them know they needed to leave her and I alone. His name is Deuce, and my daughter Natalie and him are best friends. They snuggle everynight together, she lays right on top of him. We got him when she was about 5 months old, he was about 2 months old. They have been raised together. The other pit bull lives at a family members house, and he was not raised around Natalie, but still respects her. I have witnessed him being at a full speed run, coming in our direction, when he noticed Natalie there, he stopped dead in his tracks, so he didn't knock her over. They are such sweet dogs! I know a litte chawawa (totally spelled that wrong) another family member owns, that is a terrible dog. He had been raised around children also, but nips at me when I reach down to pet him. I would never want my daughter to be around him. My point to all this is chawaws are just as dangerous as pitbulls, just not as publisized.

I attended a local event where the current animals for adoption were there for the public to see or adopt. I honestly starting crying right there in front of people I didn't even know because I was told that if some of the pets at the loction weren't adopted over the weekend, they would have to be put to sleep within a couple of days. I couldn't stand looking at these innocent creatures knowing they did nothing wrong to have their lives end so soon. IT BROKE MY HEART.....PLEASE HELP!

I live 20 miles from Lancaster County and it sickens me to think that all these poor animals are being mistreated and I'm not able to help. Please send this to Curt Schroder and John Rafferty, Jr. in Harrisburg and tell them to support HB2525 and 2532 to stop this disgrace in our beautiful state of Pennsylvania.

I UNFORTUNATELY PURCHASED TWO PUPPIES FROM A LOCAL PET STORE. TWO DAYS LATER, ONE HAD TO BE PUT DOWN FROM SEIZURES BROUGHT ON BY A VIRUS IN HER LIVER, AND THE SECOND IS JUST RECOVERING FROM PNEUMONIA. HEARTACHE WAS HUGE. WHAT WAS TO BE A WONDERFUL TIME WITH TWO NEW LITTLE PUPPIES TURNED INTO A NIGHTMARE. I HAD TO MAKE THE DECISION TO EUTHANIZE A TINY PUPPY IN THE PET ER AT 2:00 IN THE MORNING. I SPENT OVER ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH FOR THESE LITTLE GUYS WITH HOPES THAT THEY COULD PLAY AND GROW UP TOGETHER. THE AMERICAN HUMANE SOCIETY PUBLISHED ONE OF THE MOST SENSIBLE THINGS I'VE READ ON THIS...A GOOD DOG BREEDER ISN'T GOING TO SELL ITS PUPPIES TO A PET STORE, THEY ARE GOING TO WANT TO MEET THE FAMILIES BUYING THEIR PUPPIES TO BE SURE THEY ARE GOING TO A GOOD HOME.

We need more awareness to the problem of homeless pets and pets that are being used for puppy mills. I cant even tell you how many times I have to contact Animal control over a pet that is abandoned or has been neglectd, I have placed many needing animals in homes but like many people I can't save them all!

I would like to see a show on tring to pass a strict bill on animal rights. If some one has been convicted of animal abuse I think it would be a great idea to have them register on the internet like sex offenders have to, and they can NEVER own another pet or it would consist of serious jail time and huge fines along with probation upon their release. As of today, I have to call Animal Control to come pick up a elderly Cocker spaniel that looks EXACTLY like Oprahs Sophie because she is lost and is half deaf and needs the medical attention that I can not afford to give her. I have placed a add for "Found Dog" in the local paper and no one has called to claim her :( This show would be VERY important and could honestly be touched on ALOT of subjects.
