Stop the Torture and Consumption of Dogs in Korea

Every year approximately TWO MILLION dogs are inhumanely caged, tortured and used for food in Korea! The dogs are crammed like vegetables into crates. When a customer makes a selection, the dogs are roughly yanked from the cage and intentionally abused before being slaughtered for the sale.

We are calling upon the Korean government to:
* enforce the existing law under the Korean Animal Protection Act, and
* to strengthen the existing law by amending it to unequivocally state that dogs and cats shall not be slaughtered for human consumption.

This practice of killing and eating dogs is not because of some long-standing cultural tradition. In fact, most Koreans find the cruelty and killing appalling. Yet it continues because it is backed by government indifference and because profit-driven industry forces aggressively promote the myth that eating severely mistreated dogs increases sexual potency.

Now is the time to stop this inhumane practice. Please join IDA and our Korean colleagues by signing this petition urging the Korean government to strengthen and enforce animal protection laws so that these cruelties can be brought to an end!

Why should the Korean Government ban the consumption of dog meat?

As an official with the power to make a difference, I urge you to please use your authority to support an amendment to strengthen Korea's Animal Protection Law to ban the torture, killing, sale and consumption of dogs and cats.

I am appalled and shocked to learn about the rampant cruelties inflicted upon animals that have been documented in Korea's live food markets. The dogs are raised in the most hideous and cruel environments, only to be beaten and slaughtered by the millions.

There is no appropriate animal protection legislation to prevent the prevailing animal cruelty currently taking place in Korea. As someone who believes strongly that animals should not be treated in this way, I have the following requests:

Dogs are our companions and NOT food. The degree of abuse that also happens before they finally die is evil. I saw a video that while the dogs were still alive they proceeded to cut out their heart - now how sick is that. The laws on animal abuse are close to nothing. We need to help them- they are counting on US.

Would you like your beloved pet dog to be brutally killed and eaten? No? Then stop being so hypocritical and allowing it to happen to other dogs! Put a stop to this disgusting practice. The poor dogs are kept in small cramped cages while waiting to be killed. And they aren't even killed humanely! The sick minded people skin them alive, boil them alive, bash them over the head then bleed them out, and all sorts of torturous methods. the people who eat dogs are sick and not worth to be called a human being! they are monsters! Who gives you the right to do what you want with animals and to eat them?
