| 921 | 5:03 am PDT, May 5 | Ms. | Anonymous | Surrey | United Kingdom | This is in direct opposition of what a humane & effective Mental-Health Bill should be. To forcibly detain people who pose no threat is cruel & to forcibly medicate anyone is criminal. The Mental Health Services is in shambles. Little or no support for those who need it. Healing tends to revolve around medication. S.S.R.I's, anti-psychotics etc are a health hazard in themselves. Too many diseases/disorders are diagnosed by psychiatrists with no scientific evidence to support their 'findings.' This should be seriously reviewed & a Bill produced to protect patients from a form of psychiatry that thinks it's God. | I'm the parent of a gentle & sensitive young man with physical & mental-health problems. The system fails to help/heal the majority of users but succeeds in doing them great harm. There are not enough good people in the system to make a healthy & progressive impact. |

| 915 | 5:45 pm PST, Feb 1 | Anonymous | Sweet Valley | United States | I am a mental health service user. I do know that all people are subject to all kinds of mental health problems. Some of us think that just because it's approved by the FDA or what ever it is approved by, it's safe but that system has failed us again and again. All the chemicals and addatives put in our foods and drinks today we should all be suffering from one sort or another kind of Mental health issues. Most people use milk every day but just look what they give cows these days to produce more milk faster. The foods they feed them just to save a dime how do you honestly think it affects us all, as well as the cows. If it goes in the cows mouth it must be in it's milk and it doesn't take a mental giant to figure that one out it goes into us. Now what about the cows bred to feed us meats they are fed even worse and they think who will know. Well with the rise in suicides in families all over the world. And even drugs and drinking lets just say it's a good mask for a mental health condition or good cover up for the same thing When are we all gonna wake up and realize how much all these things affect the mind. And anyone opposed to this bill let me just say I hope one day someone you love doesn't need help or die due to the neglect of the people standing for the people like a child or grandchild cause of death suicide because most health plans don't cover these things lets all be apart of the solution instead of the problem and lets try to save a life or two while we are at it. There are to many graves filled already. | ||

| 913 | 2:30 am PST, Jan 4 | Mr. | Paul Boyden | birmingham | United Kingdom | Agreed with most people on here, forced treatment is not the way. It is, quite simply, abuse. Bring in the psychological treatments. Bring in the service user led methodology. Bring in the respect. | No, Assistant Psychologist and former staff member at Mind |

| 906 | 9:12 pm PDT, Mar 22 | Ms. | Anonymous | Brantford | Canada | Determinants of health may not even be the landscape of this bill, as well if passed it could lead to more direct to other international direction to those who may need the mental health services. Then we as human beings may use it too help those elite to live with full levels of higher standards of social status- in regards to this bill. | YES- and if I have too do it over again I think strongly I would of not entered the mental health system..if I had any ideal how those in the system builds stigma outside the system. |

| 901 | 8:42 am PST, Jan 7 | miranda morland | tunbridge wells | United Kingdom | If this bill is allowed to go through many more vulnerable people will be detained against their will...this violates our human rights...this bill is about power and control ...not about therapeutic care... it is barbaric and must be stopped...the government and media are causing stigma and discrimination...they incite the public into believing that those who have been bruised by life are dangerous ...this bill is about the protection of the public and not about the care of the patient...in short this is a bill out of the home office rather than the health department...the new act needs to be written by us for us...those who have used services and their carers have first hand experience of what is necessary...this new act should be about respect and dignity...and receiving the services we deserve, desire and choose...there are only 30,000 psychiatric beds left in this country…we are entitled to a safe place where these services can be delivered...and not a police cell which is so often the case...this bill will allow ANYONE to be contained and treated against their will… this gives the authorities power over every citizen no matter their ethnicity, creed or religion…unless you are an MP and elite then their sectioning process is different | survivors making waves "just one drop" www.freewebs.com/bruiseduk/ |
Mental Health Bill
The proposed Mental Health Bill could be devastating to many mental health service users. Mind, in a press release, states, "The Mental Health Alliance recognises that the Government wants to improve on the old Mental Health Act of 1983, but there are key elements of this Bill that will actually make mental health services worse:
It will ‘backfire’ as more compulsory detentions and forced treatments in the community will drive people away from seeking services. The new criteria for compulsion are far too wide
There are no rights to services – which means people will still be turned away from services when they need them
Essential safeguards for detained patients are missing."
This bill proposes, amongst other things, forcible medication and forced imprisonment when no crime has been committed.
Sign this petition which will be sent directly to Louis Appleby, the Mental Health Czar, and make your voice heard.
