Justice for LaVena Johnson

Target:
Both Branches of the United States Congress and President G.W. Bush
Sponsored by:
Ms. LaVena Johnson, following her family's military tradition,  joined the Army immediately after finishing high school as an honor roll student.

In July 2005, Ms. Johnson was found dead in a military army base in Iraq. The military ruled her death as a suicide. There was evidence found on her body however of a physical struggle consisting of two loose front teeth and a bruised lip which had to be corrected at the funeral home.

Despite her father, Dr. John Johnson's inquires into her body's physical condition, the army responded that the case was closed.

More evidence that did not support the military's ruling of Ms. Johnson's death was a suicide was revealed by a local Missouri news network. Ms. Johnson's mental state was quite stable according to reports before her death, there was a trail of blood leading to the barracks where her body was found as well as evidence that a perpetrator attempted to set her body on fire.

Despite years of Mr. John Johnson's dedicated efforts to have the army reopen the case, they continue to refuse.

Philip Barron, an independent activist, dedicated his effort toward military justice and full disclosure with the website http://www.lavenajohnson.com/ and also started a petition that has recently expired which targeted the Armed Services Committees of the Senate and the House.

There is a renewed interest surrounding the call for justice for LaVena Johnson with more and more people becoming educated of the facts.

Let us utilize this renewed interest and demand our Congress to call for investigations, and full disclosure of the events surrounding the death of such a beautiful soul.

Let us utilize this renewed interest and demand our Congress to call for investigations, and full disclosure of the events surrounding the death of such a beautiful soul.

We the undersigned, urge you to reopen an investigation on the death of Ms. LaVena Johnson. Ms. Johnson, a 19 year old private stationed in Iraq died in July of 2005. Upon her death, the army declared that Ms. Johnson's death was self inflicted.

Due to the dedicated investigation of Dr. J. Johnson, further evidence has been found from the autopsy of Ms. Johnson's body and from the barracks where her body was found.

This evidence includes a blood trail leading toward where her body was found, signs that a perpetrator attempted to burn both the barracks and her body, signs of physical struggle in the form of two loose front teeth as well as a bruised lip which had to be reconstructed by the funeral home which attended to her body.

When Dr. J. Johnson presented this new evidence the response he received from the military is that the case is closed.

We urge you, in the name of democracy, in the name of justice, in the name of civic honor to reopen the investigation of Ms. Johnson's death and fully disclose all findings.

Ms. Johnson was an honor roll student, who straight from high school enlisted herself voluntarily into the army. If her sacrifice is to be honored in action, her death must be thoroughly investigated and if it is found that Ms. Johnson was murdered that the perpetrator be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Rebuilding the morale of our military, of our citizens and our country demands real answers.

We thank you, in advance, for your focused consideration and commitment to justice.

I loathe injustice and feel it is brutally injust to allow a cover up IF in fact that is the case. If there is none, then a reopening should be swift and clean and shouldn't cost the government anything more than it already OWES the life of a young lady.

I am writing to urge our Congress to call for investigations in the rape/murder of Pfc Lavena Johnson. The injuries to Lavena's body show it's impossible for her to have inflicted those wounds on her own persons. Please, Lavena deserves justice. She left, directly after high school to do a good deed in serving her country. If she is to die, she deserves to die with dignity and respect.

It is horrible to read that the Army refuses to reopen the investigation. When I was in Iraq, I have heard of many "soldier on soldier" crimes. You would think that in a wartime environment that we would be focused on the enemy and not focused on destroying or hurting each other. I agree with others that a third party needs to be involved because it looks like the Army is trying to coverup the real facts of this case.

It is a disgrace that a needless death occurring under such suspicious circumstances has not been properly investigated in a country that claims to uphold liberty and justice for all. It is time for the truth to be drawn out, and those involved in LaVena's death, brought to justice.

It saddens me that brave citizens, like LaVena Johnson, fight for the freedoms of our country and are not protected by our government and receive no justice! You must reopen this case! There are no excuses or explanations!

This is not just about holding responsible the man or men that caused LaVena's death. More importantly, it's about holding responsible a corrupt institution that continues to use their power to ignore the injustices that occur under THEIR WATCH.

Soldiers think they can do whatever the hell they want - poor woman. The guy who did it should get decades, if not life in prison.

The army should give her the respect she deserves and reopen this case. Whoever did this may have some psychological problems and make a pattern out of attacking female soldiers who are across seas. I AGREE! LET'S REOPEN THIS CASE!!!

As we've seen in the handling of the Pat Tillman case, the military will lie to cover its behind. The family deserves to know the truth about what really happened to their daughter. If she was raped and murdered, the perpetrators need to be punished and the military held accountable for the coverup.

There appears to be a major amount of injustice accomplished here by who else the US Government, but of course! I as an American citizen and as military Veteran, I demand a full investigation into the death of this Soldier and the mishandling of the investigation surrounding this entire matter,it appears JUSTICE has not been fully & completely served.

I am outraged, sadden, hurt, and down right angry over this! The millitary knows that something horrible happend to this child while she was there. They cover so much up and I for one am tired of it. This was someone's daughter, friend, sister, and could have been someone's mother in the future but that was sadly taken away. I send my deepest regard to this young lady's family and friends because they had to lose someone they loved way too soon. My prayers and thought's are with you and please do not give up she deserves to have justice served!

As a parent whom has lost a child, I know that the pain is unbearable and even more so when there are so many unanswered questions. I pray that all that is hidden in the dark will be revealed in the light. My prayers are with her family and may God comfort you as only he can.

I think that the country is in a bad place. Is it not enough that this CHILD gave her life for her country but the country allowed her life to be taken in return. I think that we as a society fail for the men and women that we enlist, deploy and allow there lives to be ever changed. I work in the medical industry and I see daily the amount of men and women that we have not only destroyed their minds but also their bodies with the agent orange chemicals and other things that they have endured because of a choice that they made to take care of the country. NOT only that the DEATH benefit that is given to the family should be listed as a crime because I considered it to be a slap in the face this past December when we had to bury my father in law that have served in 2 wars and given his country more than 20 years active service. I pray that this family will find peace and that the country will do the right thing in regards for the family. No parent wants to bury a child but especially under these circumstances
