The Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) is a lobbying organization founded by Grover Norquist that promotes the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge.” This Pledge solemnly binds lawmakers who sign it to never raise revenue from taxes, regardless of the circumstances. Even a war or natural disaster would be financed with spending cuts; never taxes. Adhering to this Pledge is clearly a barrier to effective lawmaking and prevents the signer from exercising his/her own free will and judgement in the legislative process to benefit taxpayers. Despite it being an impediment to effective governance, a large number of State and Federal Lawmakers chose to sign the Pledge anyway. To see the pages and pages of names of lawmakers that have signed the Pledge, Go to www.atr.org. Click on “The Pledge” and scroll to the bottom of the page. Select the Federal or State “List of Signers.” Contact your State and Federal Lawmakers and tell them that you oppose the “Taxpayer Protection Pledge” whether they have signed it or not. Go to usa.gov. Click on “Contact Government” then click on “Contact Your Elected Officials.” Fill in the contact information and submit the form. In addition, Federal lawmakers that signed the Pledge may be in violation of Rule 6 of the Code of Ethics for Government Service. Read about the Code of Ethics for Government Service at Pages 20 and 436 of the House and Senate Ethics Manuals, respectively. (ethics.house.gov and ethics.senate.gov) Tell your lawmakers to enforce the Code of Ethics for Government service. Please take the time to make a difference by signing this petition and encouraging others to sign. Thank You!
Dear Lawmaker: According to the lobbying organization, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR), you signed their trademark "Taxpayer Protection Pledge." In signing this Pledge you solemnly bound yourself to never raise revenue from taxes regardless of the circumstances. This Pledge prevents you from exercising your own free will and judgement to represent us taxpayers in the legislative process as you were elected to do. We, the taxpayers, release you from this Pledge that you ostensibly made to us. We request that you renounce it in thought and deed. We further request that you retrieve all signed copies of your Pledge and have ATR remove your name from their list. Thank you for your service and for making government more effective. Sincerely,Concerned Taxpayers
Keep up the great work. Look what you've accomplished!
