Homeland Security scheming to track every American - Submit comments now!

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: American Civil Liberties Union
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched an attack on our privacy rights and personal freedoms.

DHS is aiming to issue a national identity card, known as Real ID, to every American. The national ID card could dictate how you travel, what government buildings you can and cannot enter and whether or not some of your financial transactions would be authorized.

America does not need this costly "big brother" nightmare. Consider the following:

  • The Real ID card will enable the routine tracking of individuals and propel us towards a surveillance society.
  • This scheme opens the floodgates to invade the privacy of ordinary, law-abiding citizens.
  • The creation of a single interlinked database will create one-stop shopping for identity thieves.
  • The Real ID will make it easy for any business to save your personal information and sell it to other companies.
  • People whose religious beliefs forbid them from having their pictures taken or using a social security card will be forced to obey this law to participate in our society.
  • This Act creates huge administrative burdens for each state and will cost Americans over $23 billion through higher taxes and licensing fees. It provides no federal funds for implementation.

The Department of Homeland Security is accepting comments on the Real ID Act through May 8. The number of comments will be watched by many influential Members of Congress, not just your own.

Your personal comments are critical to prevent Real ID from becoming a Real Nightmare! Please add your comments below.

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am deeply concerned by the Department of Homeland Security's proposal for a federal identity document through the Real ID Act.

[Your comment]

For these reasons, I oppose the Real ID Act.

Sincerely,

It's not a good idea to be tracking hard-working United States citizens. It would consume vast amounts of money that can be used for education for children or helping to protect our borders.

This is, by far and away, one of the most asinine schemes the government has machinated to date. For shame.

I will refuse to be a part of a socialistic program such as the "smart ID". I want my rights back. Peace and non-violence is the only way this country will grow strong again!

Do Not invade my privacy. This is one of our "in-alieable" rights under the constitution. What made America strong, when violated, will tear us apart.

This looks like an inoscent card but has overhelming detramental citizenship freedom issues. If this is passed by Congress there must be an optout clause.

Whatever happened to Innocent until proven guilty?? What are we, China? My grandfather fought for our freedoms, and I will not sit back and just let the government looking out for their own interests to let his death be in vain. Shame on you, Bush!!!

Law abiding citizens do not need government peering over their shoulders at everything they do. This sounds like the beginning of the One World Order and being forced to take the mark of the Beast that we are warned about in the Bible.

Tyranny and dictatorship! God Al-Mighty created us free from enslavement by others yet governments and systems we fund with our own hard earned money through taxes and other charges are beginning to deny us this God given liberty! Looks like a good time for a revolution.

Telecoms "helped abuse our rights until their bill wasn't paid any longer then they shut off those who didn't pay"..lol..true! So, how can they state they did it to "help keep us safe". There wasn't a reason for them to abuse our rights and for Congress to give them immunity says they broke the law, if they didn't then why would they need immunity anyway? We should revoke immunity, as this is the will of the people.I just heard today that even though many were against the telecoms getting immunity Congress allowed them to get away w/it anyway?? Is there no limit to their shredding of the constitution along with George Bush? Did they forget they are their to do "the will of the people who elected them? Once in office all they seem to care about is getting re-elected and getting money from large Corp. sponsors, maybe "We the People" should petition to change this law so we can recall our congress persons BEFORE the next election. All it takes is our recalling a few before they get the message. Maybe it's time we told them, We've had enough of their assisting those who abuse our rights, including them!

If big brother wants to constantly watch me then that is fine. However, if they do that, they need to start enforcing the laws properly.

I was raised to believe that America is the Land of the Free. Now I am being told I'm not free unless the government wants to let me be. How is this different from any other totalitarian state?

This is America, not Nazi Germany or North Korea. Americans are entitled to PRIVACY, FREE SPEECH and PROTECTION FROM INVADERS Who want to take over America. Law-abiding outspoken Americans are NOT terrorists and we should NOT be treated as potential criminals. Congress, do your job in keeping our borders safe and Americans FREE. Please do NOTE vote for this National ID card for American citizens. (IF anyone should be made to carry one, it should ONLY be for convicted felons and illegal aliens). Not us.
