Tell Colorado State Officials to Keep Our Public Lands Public

Here in Colorado, we cherish our national public lands and know that they're integral to our way of life and local economy. Whether it’s taking our kids hunting in the San Juans, rafting through Browns Canyon with our friends, or spending a weekend hiking in the Maroon Bells, we know that this land is our land.

Right now, though, our lands are under attack and we could lose access to some of our favorite places. Out-of-state special interest groups are pressuring Colorado state legislators to seize our national public lands and put them under state control in an effort to increase private development across the Rockies for corporate profit.

We have a responsibility to preserve our outdoor heritage and wild places for future generations. Now is the time to act. Let Governor Hickenlooper and your state elected officials know that our 24 million acres of national public lands in Colorado should stay open and accessible to all.
Dear [State Senator/Representative],

Colorado is fortunate enough to have 24 million acres of national public lands that we rely on for economic prosperity, clean water, outdoor recreation, and our unique way of life across the state. Recent assaults on our public lands — specifically the introduction of bills that seek to seize or undermine public lands and place them in state control — could put ranchers out of business, close off access for hunting, fishing, and recreation, and bankrupt our state.

I join the majority of voters in Colorado who oppose state seizure of national public lands, and agree that our land should be held in trust for all Americans, and all Americans should share in the costs of managing these lands.

Please stand up to efforts that attempt to strip these lands from the public, fence them off and auction them to the highest bidder. Our wild, outdoor places are what make Colorado — and America — so great. As your constituent, I want you to stand by our national public lands and keep them public, for all of us and for future generations.
