Help Ban Bullfighting

Every year 250,000 bulls die slow and torturous deaths as a result of the bullfighting industry. While many of us imagine the matador piercing the heart of the bull with one quick movement, in reality the bull is repeatedly stabbed, skewered and slowly weakened as it bleeds to death.

The gruesome killing of hundreds of thousands of bulls is done in the name of entertainment and has no place in our modern society. It is time to update this outmoded tradition and start treating animals more humanely.

Dear President Zapatero,

I am writing today to strongly urge you to support the ban on bullfighting. As you are well aware, there is a growing condemnation of bullfighting not only in Spain, but around the world. Bullfighting is both cruel and inhumane and I am one of the millions of people throughout the world that is calling for its abolition.

Bullfighting is an outmoded and barbaric form of "entertainment" that has no place in our modern society and needs to be stopped. Moreover, the vast majority of Spaniards and the rest of the world condemn bullfighting and the mass killing of animals.

The current animal protection laws ban the killing and mistreating of animals in shows except in the case of bullfights. This antiquated law needs to be updated and revised so that we can effectively end the killing of hundreds of thousands of animals in the name of entertainment.

Bullfighting is a merciless and torturous form of entertainment and I strongly urge you to take a stance in ending animal cruelty by supporting the ban on bullfighting today.

I've been to one in Spain. I had no idea how heartless this so called "sport" is. Those connected to bull fighting in any way shape or form cannot call themselves civilized. Had I known the reality about bull fighting, I would have never gone. I did not know the Bull dies a slow painful death. In fact, I didn't know he was killed, or put through any pain at all. I was disgusted and sick to my stomach. I was so sorry for the poor innocent animal and I had no respect for the matadors or the audience applauding this cruelty. Some Spanish people say that bull fighting is part of their national character and that it is man against beast, etc!!! I realize everyday that extreme cruelty to animals is more wide-spread than we would like to admit. The difficult part for me is that I have a soft spot for Spain. I have wonderful memories of my visits and I love all the Spanish people I got to know. What I don't understand is how can Spanish people think of this extreme cruelty as a "sport". This is really sad.

What kind of sub- humans are those who get pleasure of others suffering even they are animals!? It is hard to believe that in spain there are this kind of persons. Bullfighting is not even a fair fight between man (the matador) and the bull. A lot of men have to connive and cheat in order to weaken the bull and then beat the bull by exhaustion. So what real values are you teaching your children in Spain, when the matador does not even fight fair? None, it is a useless fight, of no value to anyone, except to display man's evil side to God and the world, as follows: cruelty, savagery, unfairness and fake victories.
