Ban Cancer-causing Indoor Tanning Facilities in Canada

Melanoma -- or skin cancer -- is among the fastest growing forms of cancer in Canada and is the most common form of cancer in the world. There are more new cases of skin cancer diagnosed every year in Canada than the number of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers combined!

Doctors and health professionals have studied the effects on human health and have deemed indoor tanning more hazardous -- when it comes to cancer -- than smoking! Even Health Canada recommends that citizens avoid using tanning beds and lamps in order to curb the spread of skin cancer.

Yet, tanning facilities continue to be allowed to do business unregulated! The Ministry "recommends" that these facilities offer a skin cancer warning to their customers -- but it does not even ban them from allowing children to use the facilities despite the risks.

Write to Health Canada's Minister Leona Aglukkaq and ask that her Ministry ban indoor tanning facilities based on the scientifically-proven risks to human health.
Dear Minister Aglukkaq,

I was shocked to hear of the lack of regulation of cancer-causing indoor tanning facilities in Canada.

Melanoma -- or skin cancer -- is among the fastest growing forms of cancer in Canada and there are more new cases of skin cancer diagnosed every year in our country than the number of breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers combined. Yet, tanning facilities continue to be allowed to do business unregulated and even allow children to use their tanning beds!

I urge you to take immediate action and ban indoor tanning facilities based on the scientifically-proven risks to human health.
