Legislation is pending that will require employers with 15 or more full-time employees to provide at least seven paid sick days a year -- a benefit 86 million working Americans don't have. That's nearly half the American workforce!
Paid sick days are especially crucial for working women. Around 40 percent of the private sector workplace don't receive any paid sick days. That includes more than 22 million women. And low-wage earners are hit especially hard, with well over half of them having no paid sick days at all.
This isn't just unfair. This is a public health issue that directly affects you and your loved ones. Many workers in industries that require constant contact with the public -- including 86 percent of all workers in the food, child care, nursing and retail industries -- don't have this basic health care benefit.
Urge your senator to support the Healthy Families Act!
We took action on “Demand Paid Sick Days for American Workers”!

Arya Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, known as Kuan Yin is the bodhisattva who most embodies compassion. The name Avalokitesvara has its root meaning as "he who observes the sounds of the world". The great vow of Avalokitesvara is to listen to the supplications, and cries for help from those in difficulty in the world and to provide them with aid, whatever expedient means are needed to help people most effectively.
Kuan Yin Bodhisattva, an emanation of Amida Buddha's compassion, is the "Regarder of the Cries of the World". Sometimes referred to in the West as the Goddess of Mercy. Prayers for help arise from thousands of hearts, and thousands of prayers are answered by her vow of eternal compassion: Beings in Samsara, who sail the ocean of suffering, She will guide and deliver safely to the ultimate shore of enlightenment

I've worked at the same company for 33 years. We do not get any paid sick days. When my son was young I'd use what little vacation time I get to stay home with him when he was sick. I can't remember the last time I stayed home from work because I was sick. Now I'm at that point in my life where I need to help care for my elderly mother. She lives at a Care Center, but I'm still responsible for taking her to Doctor appointments. The company I work for frowns upon this when I need to leave for a couple of hours. Please, I urge you to support the Healthy Families Act. This is a great Nation, and we're always helping other countries. Let us also help ourselves by putting family first.

As a single mother of 3 kids, it is imparative that I am able to take my children to the doctor when they get sick, as well as go to the doctor myself, and I cannot afford to loose a day's pay.
I have often gone to work sick becuase I couldn't afford to lose the pay for the day. I am sure this hurts both the business, becuase it can make other employees and customers sick, and myself cause it takes longer to recover.

I find it amazing that in the 'greatest" country in the world, so many people don't have sick leave, health care, affordable education, or a liveable wage. Please do all you can to make life in the USA comparable to those countries not the "greatest.'

Particularly in this time of H1N1 and other infectious diseases, paid sick days only make sense - common sense, but also business and economic sense.

I am one of these women. I am a full-time employee with part-time status. The part-time status means I do not get the benefits of a full-time employee, including paid sick time. My employer will work me full time hours until the system is about to change my status. Then I can't get more than 29 hours until the risk of them having to give me the benefits I deserve is gone. Most employers now refuse to hire full-time people because they will have to pay the benefits. But they will still work you as though you were full-time.
Due to our attendance policy, if you miss three days in six months, you are coached. If you miss six days, you are fired. So not only do I not have paid sick days, I have to worry about losing my job if I get sick for more than a few days.
Please help. Please change the laws that let employers get away with these tactics.
