Tell Obama to Ban Fracking

Hydraulic fracturing, known as fracking, is one of the most dangerous methods of oil gas extraction used today. It has caused serious water and air pollution, devastating health problems, and extensive property damage.

The process of fracking involves injecting millions of gallons of water, sand, and toxic chemicals into the ground in order to fracture underground rock formations. Afterward, the toxic fracking fluids are pumped back up and disposed of in underground tanks or open pits.

Over 600 dangerous chemicals are used in fracking operations. Of these, 50% can damage the brain and nervous system, and more than 75% can affect respiratory systems and sensory organs.

Fracking has caused serious air pollution problems in rural areas. Smog levels in 2010 were higher in Wyoming than in Los Angeles. Scientists have found that those living within a half-mile of fracking sites have a significantly higher rates of cancer and asthma.

Even worse, fracking is doing nothing to combat climate change. Because of methane leaks, fracking is worse for the environment than coal.

Tell President Obama to ban fracking before it's too late.
Dear President Obama,

I urge you to support a national ban on fracking.

Independent studies have shown that fracking poses grave risks to our air, water, and property value. Our nation cannot afford to continue this dangerous practice.

Already, fracking has caused cattle quarantines, massive earthquake swarms, and skyrocketing rates of asthma and cancer. If you don't take action now to stop fracking, huge swaths of America's heartland will be devastated by industrialization and contaminated aquifers.

Please stand up to corporate interests and protect our communities from the dangers of fracking.

Sincerely,
