Shame on You, U.S. Senate

On April 17th, the Senate chose the deep pockets of pro-gun lobbyists over the safety of America's kids by rejecting a bipartisan proposal that would have expanded background checks for would-be gun purchasers.

92% of all Americans supported the measure, but 45 senators chose to block this potentially life-saving bill.

They've let down the victims of Newtown, Aurora, Virginia Tech, and the thousands of random acts of gun violence that happen in our country every single day. They've let down the American people.

Democratic leadership aides promised that the background check effort could be revived if the public demanded it.

Let's make our voices heard. Tell the Senate that you support background checks -- and you won't forget their actions today.
I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the U.S. Senate in your failure to pass the bipartisan compromise to expand background checks for would-be gun purchasers, a ban on assault weapons and a ban on high-capacity gun magazines.

I, along with 92% of all Americans, was in favor of passing laws that would help keep my friends and family safe. But because 45 of you chose pro-gun lobbyists over our children's lives, that progress was blocked today.

I am writing to tell you that I remember. I remember Aurora, and Virginia Tech, and Sandy Hook, and the thousands of other nameless victims of gun violence that suffer and die every day. Maybe you've forgotten all of them already, but I remember. Just like I'll remember your decisions today about gun laws.

It is clear that today was just the beginning of the movement toward expanded background checks and real reform to end gun violence. From now on, please work toward protecting our families rather than your campaign coffers.
