CLOSE DOWN INDONESIAN ANIMAL MARKETS-TUTUP PASAR SATWA DI INDONESIA
Dear H. MS Kaban, SE, Msi -
Kepada yth. H.MS Kaban, SE, Msi
Hereby we urge you to take action against Indonesian Animal Markets which are still operating and legalized although many illegal activities take place.
Close down Indonesian Animal Markets.
Our main concerns about the Animal Markets are:
Fakta mengenai pasar satwa yang menjadi perhatian kami :
- Threat towards the survival of Indonesian wildlife species and Animal Welfare.
Animals traded have been wild caught. Besides the impact the catching of animals has on their natural environment and the future survival of the species, the trade has a huge negative impact on their welfare and only few animals will survive until they reach the horrific animal markets.
- Diseases.
Besides the suffering of the millions of animals traded in these markets, there is also a international concern about the diseases passed from animals to other animals and from animals to humans on these markets. Animals from these markets are still being exported to other countries, a big threat to human health worldwide, Diseases like Avian Influenza, aspergilli, Tuberculosis and Bird Flu are likely to evaluate on the animal markets.
- Kesejahteraan Satwa
- Exotic animals traded.
Indonesia import animals to be traded on the main animal markets. The risk of damage to the natural environment, like for example Brazilian turtles now ranging in the Papuan waters, destroying the natural resources is a reason for concern. Also the trade in protected foreign animals is flourishing and law enforcement programs are needed to also protect exotic species.
- Perdagangan satwa eksotik
Therefore we urge the Indonesian government to undertake steps the following main animal markets and close them down immediately:
Pramuka Bird Market, Jakarta
Jati Negara Bird Market, Jakarta
Barito Bird market, Jakarta
And all other Indonesian Animal Markets.
Yours sincerely,
Dengan hormat,
