Oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment

Target: President George Bush and Congress
Sponsored by: Democratic National Committee
It is now clear that President Bush and the Republicans will use attacks against gays and lesbians as their 2004 election year strategy.

Recently, President Bush officially declared his support for the Federal Marriage Amendment — a measure that would write discrimination into the United States Constitution.

It's time to stand up and be heard.

We must protect our civil rights and liberties and protect the constitution from the hands of the far-right conservatives.

President Bush can't run on his record, so he'll work to divide Americans on wedge issues like same-sex marriage to ignite his failing campaign. What's worse — he's willing to do it by darkening our Constitution with an amendment that forbids our rights instead of protecting them — the only other amendment to do so was Prohibition.

All of our civil rights are at stake, and we must do everything we can to protect them. Please sign this petition today to oppose the Federal Marriage Amendment - all of our rights depend on it!

Dear President Bush and Members of Congress:

I am outraged at the President's willingness to support the Federal Marriage Amendment. This measure threatens the freedom of all Americans because it denies the civil rights of a whole group of individuals. All Americans deserve equality under the law.

President Bush, I urge you to stop catering to far-right conservatives, and to start showing respect for GLBT families.

Members of Congress, if the President is indeed willing to launch an attack on the civil rights of gay and lesbian Americans, then the responsibility now falls on you to defend the rights of the people — all of the people. As my elected representative I urge you to fulfill your duty to your constituents by opposing the Federal Marriage Amendment. Any attempt to amend the constitution for the sole purpose of denying freedoms to a minority of Americans is an attempt to deny equality for all Americans.

The only argument against gay marriage is religious. Marriage licenses are given out by the state. You do the math.

In Florida, we will be fighting the same craziness. Love is love. How dare someone define it in their terms. I support monogamy. I support having only two people making a committment to each other. I support that only two humans can married. What I do not support is the definition that marriage is only between a Man and Woman. I would support the following definition: Marriage is a between only a man/woman, woman/woman or man/man. Please stop the insanity. Your American Citizen which you represent.

This is such an outdated idea. Let people who love each other get married. There's so much violence and hate in this world. Why stop love? Get the politicians out of our beds! Solve problems like global warming and world hunger and leave the lovers alone!

Everyone has a right to the legal and/or spiritual union of marriage, no matter who they are marrying. Relationships are not all about making babies.
