Pennsylvania Governor Pushes Risky Fracking in Delaware River Watershed

  • by: Care2 Causes

The Delaware River Watershed (DRW) is in jeopardy, with Pennaylvania Governor Tom Corbett lobbying for ill-advised and dangerous fracking projects in this highly central water supply. If the DRW's health were be compromised, it would negatively affect the drinking water of 15.6 million people across Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware and New Jersey.

The Delaware River Basin Committee (DRBC) voted no on proposed drilling in the Delaware River Watershed, but that hasn't stopped Governor Corbett from rallying support for fracking. His opinion is that in due time, he will convince the politicians in neighboring states to support fracking in the DRW--even though the fracking process will release contaminants such as methane, hyrdrocarbons, and cancer-causing benzene into the drinking supply.

Do not let Governor Corbett skew the facts about fracking in the DRW. Drilling in this crucial body of water will risk the health of the millions that drink from it--a risk that no politician should support.
Dear Governor Corbett,

Fracking in the Delaware River Watershed will compromise not just the health of Delaware citizens, but also the health 15.6 million people across Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey that depend on the DRW's drinking water every day.

Contaminating a main drinking supply with hydrocarbons, methane, and cancer-causing benzene is not an option. The Delaware River Basin Commission opposes drilling in the DRW because it knows that imposing pollution and health concerns on those in contact with the DRW's water supply is hazardous and unjust.

I urge you on behalf of Delaware and its neighboring states to halt your excessive lobbying for DRW fracking.

Sincerely,
