Pass PAWS, and Urge the U.S. Congress to Protect the Forgotten Victims of Domestic Violence!

  • by: Amy Thompson

According to recent statistics, up to 40% of women suffering from domestic violence choose to return to their abusers based on their love and concern for their pets.
Despite this alarming percentage, just 3% of domestic violence shelters accommodating these human victims can ensure the same safety for their beloved animals with temporary placement in animal shelters.
Far too often, the violence perpetrated towards these women is also handed down to their pets, as a way to control and embed fear.
Without the assurance of safety for their beloved animals in a domestic violence shelter, many victims choose to stay in such situations.
The enaction of the PAWS act would allow federal funding to protect these forgotten victims, and would also give the humans escaping from violent situations the peace of mind and power to NOT return to their abusers.
Funding for animal care in situations involving domestic violence is necessary, and will save the lives of both humans and animals.
PLEASE act now!!!
