Stop Nat'l Panhellenic Conference's Student Lobbyists from Backing Rape Culture on Campus

The National Panhellenic Conference, a member of the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition, is participating in an attempt to lobby Congress to limit college and university reviews of hazing, rape, sexual assault and similar cases until AFTER the criminal process for each case has been completed. This will lead to victims having to live near or go to class with their attackers, perhaps for years. It will chill reporting on campus for those who do not wish to go through a criminal process. In short, an organization representing 26 national sororities is going along with the boys' club to stifle the rights of their own sisters.  (For full article, please see http://www.huffingtonpost.com)

Sororities and other fraternal women's organizations should be joining college students to fight AGAINST the closeting of rape and sexual assault, both on- and off-campus.

The FGRC is sending 100 sorority and fraternity women and men to speak on Capitol Hill favoring the return to old ways in late April. They have been instructed not to speak to reporters.

We, as women and men, Greek and non-Greek, must direct the NPC (representing 26 national sororities) to oppose the FGRC's attempts to lobby Congress into retreating from the progress made against hazing and college rape culture thus far. It is a feminist and a humanist issue. Any organization purporting to support collegiate women MUST support victims' rights at the collegiate level.

Chairman Mrasek:

On March 25th, 2015, The Huffington Post reported: "National fraternity organizations, reeling from repeated controversies over members' misbehavior, are considering pressing Congress to forbid colleges from punishing campus sex offenders until after a police investigation and criminal trial." As a member of the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition, you represent 26 national sororities. And yet, you are participating in an attempt to lobby Congress to limit college and university reviews of hazing, rape, sexual assault and similar cases until AFTER the criminal process for each case has been completed. the National Panhellenic Conference, a member of the Fraternal Government Relations Coalition, is participating in an attempt to lobby Congress to limit college and university reviews of hazing, rape, sexual assault and similar cases until AFTER the criminal process for each case has been completed. We, as men and women, Greek and non-Greek, ask that the NPC OPPOSE the FGRC's attempts to lobby Congress into retreating from the progress made against hazing and college rape culture thus far. NPC should support college men and women who are victimized, and encourage them to use their campus' disciplinary processes regardless of any criminal prosecution's timeline. It is a feminist and a humanist issue that affects the quality of campus life nationwide. Any organization purporting to support collegiate women MUST support victims' rights at the collegiate level.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
