Diplomacy has run its course. The international powers have allowed the discussion of Kosovo’s independence to recently become derailed by enormous power struggles between the G8 countries over oil rights, nuclear weapons, and terrorism. In none of these cases should the future of Kosovo be used as a bargaining chip. The time has come for Kosovo to step forward and claim its rightful place among the nations of the world, as guaranteed by the 1948 UN Declaration of Human Rights, in which every person has the right to freely choose in open and fair elections the government with which he will share his personal rights and freedoms. This petition urges Mr. Ceku to exert his leadership in creating a non-nationalist flag, a name, and statements that protect the rights of all the people of Kosovo. NATO is ready. The World Bank is ready. The EU justice system is ready. China, the USA, Germany and the UN and Macedonia are ready.
