Petition to the Johannesburg City to create SUB-COUNCILS

- recipient: We request the City of Johannesburg to set in motion a public participation process for establishing Sub Councils
Poor service delivery in Johannesburg is the direct result of the City being too big, too centralised and too unaccountable. It does not listen to you, let alone to your local Ward Councillor.
The Local Government Municipal Structures Act 1998 allows for the creation of Sub-Councils in areas with common interest in order to have powers to control budget spending, administration and oversee all municipal functions in their areas.
The result will be -
• Proper oversight by your Councillor
• Flexibility in determining priorities
• Responsiveness to pressing issues
• Accountable officials
• Effective enforcement of by-laws

Please sign this petition to force the Johannesburg City Council to adopt the introduction of Sub-Councils as per the Municipal Structures Act of 1998, that has been working well in Cape Town, in order to ensure greater accountability and representative action by the City going forward
