Protect Funding for AmeriCorps

Included in the multitude of cuts proposed by the current House of Representatives is a complete elimination of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), which funds AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, Learn and Serve America and other service programs.

Cutting these programs would affect millions of Americans. These service programs provide services to homeless Americans, help maintain our public lands, promote recycling and waste management, educate our children, and provide critical services to seniors. The proposal to cut this funding is irresponsible and short-sighted.

It is up to the Senate to reject the House's budget cuts and protect AmeriCorps and other service programs. Please sign today!
Dear Senator,

I am writing to express my extreme concern about the elimination of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) in the House's budget (H.R. 1) is a huge mistake for this country and for the communities these programs serve.

Millions of Americans are touched by service programs every year. These programs create valuable jobs for Americans who are transitioning between careers, and their service benefits poverty-stricken families, children, seniors and many more under-served communities.

For some cities and communities, service programs are the reason they are still functioning within their means. We cannot deprive these communities of valuable services that would not be provided without these dedicated volunteers.

Please make sure that CNCS is appropriately funded in your FY2011 budget.

Thank you for your time.
