Let's Honour Fred Hollows: Put Him on the Fiver!

Our distinct pink bank note features the Queen on one side and Parliament House on the other. But did you know that the $5 note is the only Australian bank note which doesn't recognise a great Australian?

We think it's time to replace the image of Parliament House with one of our most inspiring Australians: Professor Fred Hollows.

This year, the Reserve Bank will release the next generation of $5 notes. These new notes will include a tactile feature for the vision impaired. There's really no better time to celebrate one of the greatest pioneers of eye health and get Fred on the Fiver.

Fred helped reduce the cost of much-needed intra-ocular lenses (IOLs) from $150 to $5. The Give Fred a Fiver campaign raised money and awareness for eye health and helped millions of people worldwide. It all started with a fiver, so it only makes sense to put Fred on the Fiver now!

Fred's work and legacy has restored eyesight to more than 2 million people. It's incredible that the vision of one person could lead to so much change. Let's honour this great Australian: let's get Fred on the Fiver.
