Elect the Legendary Dottie West to the Country Music Hall of Fame!

It's been over ten years since the life of one of Country Music's greatest pioneers, Dottie West, was extinguished following injuries sustained in an automobile accident while en route to the Grand Ole Opry in September 1991. But her legacy continues to live on in today's Country Music, a sound and image that she helped to pioneer!
As everyone knows, Dottie was the beautiful red headed legend behind the hits "Country Sunshine", "A Lesson in Leavin'", "Are You Happy Baby?", "Here Comes My Baby", "Country Girl" and "Last Time I Saw Him"; as well as a duet partnership with Kenny Rogers that resulted in the hits "Every Time Two Fools Collide", "What Are We Doin' In Love?" and "Anyone Who Isn't Me Tonight". Dottie was one of Nashville's finest singer/songwriters (she wrote over 400 songs) and was the first woman in Country Music to be honored with a Grammy.
But Dottie's legacy doesn't end with just her music. Dottie served as hostess to some of Nashville's current Hall of Famers (Willie Nelson and Kris Kristopherson) when they first came to Nashville and were looking for work. She also carried on the legacy of her best friend, Patsy Cline, and continued to break doors down that the industry refused to open to women. Dottie transformed the hayseed image of the woman in Country Music with glitz and glamour. She wasn't afraid to step outside of her boundries and try her hand at Broadway shows, television and the silver screen. Always a true Country Girl at heart, Dottie crossed over into Pop Music several times and always served as an ambassador for Country Music. She was always encouraging to newcomers in the industry and helped start the careers of artists like Larry Gatlin and Steve Wariner.
Like many legends, Dottie's story is the stuff that dreams are made of, a total rags to riches tale. Although her private life caused some controversy in the conservative world of Country Music, such will never be enough to overshadow the amazing career that this pioneer trailblazed.
Please join us, Friends and Fans of Dottie West, by signing this petition asking the CMA to give Dottie West a long overdue honor: a deserved place in The Country Music Hall of Fame.
