Don't Let Idaho Kill Endangered Wolves

Target: Fish and Wildlife Service
Sponsored by: Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund
Hundreds of wolves are at risk in Idaho, where in 2001 legislators passed a measure calling for the elimination of wolves "by any means necessary." The State has recently asked for permission to kill up to 75% of the wolves within the Lolo District of Clearwater National Forest and in an area where they are now protected as an endangered species. And, they want to repeat the slaughter in the Lolo District every year for the next five years.

Most unsettling is that Idaho would like to kill 3 out of 4 wolves regardless of the wolves' history of interaction with humans and livestock. That means that wolves that have never done anything to harm livestock or people could be killed.

Once hunted, trapped and poisoned to extinction in Idaho, wolves have made a remarkable recovery. An estimated 512 wolves, including 36 breeding packs, are a critical part of Idaho's ecosystems. And, contrary to anti-wolf extremists' claims, the wolves are not a significant threat to livestock or game populations.

Help us stop anti-wolf extremists and save the wolves – Urge the U.S. Fish and Wildlife to deny Idaho's request to kill wolves.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is accepting public comments through August 6th, 2007 on a new plan could allow more than half the wolves in Idaho and Wyoming to be killed. Please sign this new petition to submit your official comment now!
As a dedicated conservationist, I strongly urge the Fish and Wildlife Service to reject the state of Idaho's request to kill wolves in the Lolo Elk management zone of the Clearwater Basin and in the area north of I-90, where gray wolves are still protected under the Endangered Species Act.

Gray wolves are an important part of Idaho's ecosystems, and contrary to anti-wolf extremists, are not a significant threat to livestock or game populations. Studies show that habitat loss has had a far greater effect on elk numbers than the reintroduction of wolves to Idaho.

These are not responsible management practices. I strongly encourage you to deny unfounded requests to kill wolves.

Thank you for considering my comments.

these animals do not deserve to die, this was their habitat long before mankind came along & destroyed it by taking over. they will soon become extinct.

The fact that you people think killing wolves just to bring down the population sickens me. You have no right to take that animals life when it's never done anything to anyone. Obviousely the people who passed that law does not have any heart when it comes to animals, but other people believe they should live. Wolves are beautiful creatures who are much like humans in the way they interact. You cannot actually pass that law. It's sick and wrong.

You need to leave the Wolves alone,They have a purpose in the World,Not for you to destroy because of People dying or etc..Cause and Effect they put there self in the problem and Farm animals too,They wouldn't be hunting there if you relocate them and if "Humans" stop populating..This won't be a problem at all..

They serve a purpose, they don't deserve to die because we decide. All wildlife should be protected. We should leave them well enough alone.

they are living breathing things just like we are, how would you like it if someone wanted to kill 75% of the population of humans in lets say alabama. you wouldn't like it now would you? so if you wouldn't like it very much, how do you think the wolves feel?

Becaue most people believe the we are the "Top of the food chain" It is our responsibility to not take advantage of the fact that we have the power to either help out obliviate the earth and its creatures. Maybe we should expeirience how it would feel if something decided to wipe oout 75 percent of our population and we can do nthing about it. I have tears in my eyes thinking about the fact that innocent wolves are being killed at this moment. If we are so against wolves killing livestock, then how about we stop taking away their habitat so that there NORMAL prey ceases to keep on vanishing. If you were homeless and starved and saw a full meal sitting on the ground do you think that you would eat it?

why can't you leave our wildlife alone??? wolves are a beautiful, regal animal and have as much right, if not more, to be here as we do. pick on something that can pick back.

The first reason why you should deny the request to kill of 75% of the wolves in this area is because you ARE the Fish and Wildlife Department and I thought your job and interest was in the preservation of a species like the wolf. Wolves have long been a part of the mystique and wonder of the west and their survival enhances and proves that the "wild" west really survives. Wolves were here long before us and deserve to stay around if for no other reason because they have earned the right to be here and will probably be around long after we've gone if we don't exterminate them first. I am aware that wolves don't have the backing of deep pocketed lobbyists on their sides like cattle ranchers or oil tycoons, but let me beg on their behalf for the right to co-exist especially on National Forest land that I always thought was for the beauty of nature and nature lovers. Wolves help make nature beautiful and natural. Thank you.

Both my mother and I are Wolf lovers, and we are planning to move to Idaho sometime next year.We don't wish to live in a state that would kill innocent wolves, so please deny Idaho's request to kill 75% of the wolves in the Lolo District of Clearwater National Forest.
