Save the Bonobo from extinction

We the undersigned are extremely concerned that the Bonobo is in great danger of extinction.

We call upon the members of the United Nations General Assembly to take firm and positive action to prevent the loss of the Bonobo from the world. These measures must include the protection of Bonobo habitat and the censure of organisations directly or indirectly responsible for threats to the Bonobo and its habitat.

Whilst there are overt pressures upon the Bonobo due to deforestation and hunting it is apparent that much of the threat is due to instability within the Congo, apparently caused by the activities of western corporations keen to extract mineral and other wealth from the area.

It is time for these organisations to be censured and for extensive protection zones to be set up within the Congo for the Bonobo.

We urge the United Nations to take a firm and positive stand on this issue.
