Give Darfur Kids Stability Through Education

Target: US Fund for UNICEF
Sponsored by: Care2
For the past 18 months, thousands of children from the Darfur region of Sudan have sought refuge in Eastern Chad after being driven from their villages.

Many of these children have never been inside a classroom. Many of them have also witnessed horrendous atrocities that are extremely difficult for any adult or child to explain or overcome.

But there is help. Educational activities strongly contribute to helping children overcome traumatic experiences – and can bring a sense of protection and normalcy to their lives.

The School-in-a-Box program has become part of the UNICEF standard response in emergencies around the world. The kit contains supplies and materials for a teacher and up to 80 students.

Support this effort to bring school supplies to the Darfur children. Tell UNICEF you want School-in-a-Box to go to more children from Darfur!

How do you think education would help Darfur children?
We respect your privacy. Your email address is used to confirm your signature and is NOT displayed publicly.

Dear US Fund for UNICEF,

Darfur is one of the hardest places in the world to be a child. Almost 2 million children have been affected by the ongoing crisis in Darfur. Yet in the face of this crisis, there is hope.

Educational activities strongly contribute to helping children overcome traumatic experiences - and can bring a sense of protection and normalcy to their lives.

I respectfully request that you increase your shipments of School-in-a-Box kits to children from Darfur. Please help these children continue their education even when basic supplies or classroom facilities are not available locally.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of children worldwide.

With education, children in Darfur will have a new way of reaching out to people. It is an outlet for them to take their minds off the horrible events taking place. With education, comes a new way of living.

I believe that education can help the Darfer children by giving them hope. Also, by giving them something to think about so that they can take their minds off all of the bad things.

Education for Darfur children will increase their knowledge of what is going on locally for them and why recent events are happening; I think it will give them confidence to make a change since they are the future. If generation after generation continue uneducated, Darfur will never pull out of what they are going through. Education is the best chance to create lasting opportunities for many Darfur children.

A country will always be on its knees until a majority of its people are educated. I am an educator and have done work in Africa.
