Support the Freedom of Choice Act

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: NARAL Pro-Choice America
The Supreme Court's decision to uphold the Federal Abortion Ban - ignoring three decades of precedent requiring protections for women's health - is a setback for all Americans who believe politicians should not make our private, personal medical decisions!

But there is something you can do to fight back. Support the Freedom of Choice Act that will restore the reproductive rights recognized under the vision expressed in 1973 in Roe v. Wade. The Freedom of Choice Act is legislation that would put Roe v. Wade into law, and guarantee the right to choose for generations to come.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a dissenting voice in the 5-4 vote, called the decision "alarming" and said it "cannot be understood as anything other than an effort to chip away a right declared again and again by this court...." The door is now open for politicians like George W. Bush and anti-choice lawmakers to launch more aggressive attacks on safe, legal abortion, without any regard for women's health.

Help get the Freedom of Choice Act on the books! Urge your members of Congress to cosponsor the Act by signing the petition.

Dear [Decision Maker],

With the Supreme Court's recent decision on the Federal Abortion Ban, the Court moved in a direction that threatens women's freedom and privacy. FOCA will secure the right to choose by establishing a federal law that will guarantee reproductive freedom for future generations of American women. Since Roe v. Wade, a woman's right to choose has been systematically eroded by anti-choice legislators at all levels of government. More than 500 anti-choice measures have been enacted in the states since 1995, essentially rolling back this fundamental right for many women. We need the protection of FOCA now more than ever before.

[Your comment here]

I urge you to stand with the majority of the country, which does not want to see Roe v. Wade overturned, and cosponsor the Freedom of Choice Act.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]

It is imperative that a woman's domain over her own body isn't robbed - particularly by the government.

Abortion stops UNWANTED children being born. Therefore it stops CHILD ABUSE. Why is this so hard for people to make the connection??

Abortion is a Choice!!!! Each and every woman must have a right to choose up until the first month.... LET'S STRONGLY URGE THE USE OF THE MORNING AFTER PILL.... We all get horny.... And many of us have had sex without thinking clearly about preventing pregnancy.... LET'S FIND A WAY TO MAKE SURE WE DO NOT HAVE ANY MORE UNWANTED CHILDREN.... Let's find a way to make sure we eliminate abortion by a third party.... MAKE SEX AN INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY.... PUT THE MORNING AFTER PILL ON THE SHELF NEXT TO ASPIRIN....

America has prided itself by being called land of the free- is there goin to be a clause stating except if your a woman? Women in other countries have no rights now America is trying to take rights away from women- Nobody not even the government has the right to choose what woman can or can't do to themselves- Thats what seperates us from every where else- our government is already bending the constitution in freedom of speach- now they are going after a gender what next how about you focus your attention on things more serious in America like poverty, jobs, our economy, what our president is doing just to name a few

I have always valued the freedom that America gives to me as a woman, but I am extremely horrified that our government would ever think to so blatantly disregard and disrespect women by denying us our human rights. I respect others' opinions on abortion, but you do not have the right to force your opinions on me. Every woman has the right to control her body, and it is an enormous step back for America is abortion is outlawed.

Who are they to decide what I should do with MY body? They are deciding what happens in our bedrooms, our lives, what we choose to do with our bodies... when is it going to end, "big brother"?
