Tell Wendy's to Speed Up Switch to Cage-Free Eggs!

Wendy's has finally joined McDonald's, Burger King and other fast-food chains in planning to switch to cage-free eggs. This follows their 2014 announcement to phase out pig gestation crates. Unfortunately, they plan to take years to roll out these changes. They say they'll switch to cage-free eggs in 2020, and eliminate gestation crates by 2022.

It shouldn't take 4 to 6 years to switch to more humane solutions. Liliana Esposito, Wendy’s Chief Communications Officer, says, "Animal welfare is a core part of our company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen." If this is true, the chain has a responsibility to prioritize animal welfare and expedite the process of eliminating battery cages and gestation stalls from their supply chains.

Recently, Ringling Brothers announced plans to retire their elephants this year instead of in 2018 as originally announced. This shows that companies will listen if there's enough demand for humane practices. Please sign the petition to urge Wendy's to prioritize a switch to cage-free and gestation-crate-free suppliers!

We understand that you plan to switch to cage-free eggs in 2020, and eliminate gestation crates by 2022. We believe that these changes can be realistically rolled out before the proposed deadlines.
