Stop Copper Mining and Save Wildlife

Last month, more than 74,000 National Wildlife Federation supporters and conservation partners urged the U.S. Forest Service to protect the 1.1 million acre Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Minnesota from dangerous sulfide-ore copper mining.

Vulnerable wildlife like moose feed and cool off in the Boundary Waters’ pristine waterways and wetlands. A toxic mining spill would devastate wildlife in the area, and contaminate this wilderness for centuries.

Every mine of this type has experienced an accidental spill into a nearby waterway. No sulfide-ore copper/nickel mine has ever operated and closed without polluting nearby waters. So we're not talking "if," but "when" sulfuric acid, heavy metals and other harmful chemicals leak into this vulnerable wild place.

To keep their habitat healthy and unspoiled for generations to come, moose need your voice right now.

Join us in calling for a full withdrawal of the federal mineral estate within the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness' watershed. Please send a message to the Department of the Interior now, letting them know that you support wildlife and want their home protected.

On behalf of the moose and all wildlife that call the Boundary Waters home, thank you for speaking loudly for this quiet place and demanding that these lands and waters be permanently protected from mining.
Dear Department of the Interior,

I support the permanent protection of the Boundary Waters Wilderness and Voyageurs National Park watershed through the prohibition of sulfide-ore copper mining on federal lands in the watershed.

Every mine of this type has experienced an accidental spill into a nearby waterway. So we're not talking "if," but "when" sulfuric acid, heavy metals and other harmful chemicals leak into this vulnerable wild place.

I urge you to fully withdraw the federal mineral estate within the Boundary Waters Wilderness Canoe Area watershed and protect moose and all wildlife that depend on this unspoiled wilderness! Thank you.
