Standard Chartered: Choose coral, not coal

The Great Barrier Reef -- one of the world's greatest ocean wonders -- is under siege from the coal industry.

If we don't act now, coal companies will be free to rip up millions of tonnes of seafloor in the Reef's waters so ships can transport coal from vast new mines.

International bank Standard Chartered is helping to organise finance for this unforgivable destruction. But if we can convince them to pull out -- we can save the Reef.

Tell Standard Chartered to choose coral over coal, and cut its ties to coal mining in the Great Barrier Reef.
To Whom it May Concern:

I am writing to urge you not to finance the coal mining complex in the Galilee Basin in Queensland, Australia. If the expansion goes ahead, it will require massive infrastructure to be installed in the Reef, ripping up the seafloor and destroying precious marine habitats.

The Great Barrier Reef is one of our greatest ecological wonders, home to a vast array of marine wildlife and the only living thing on Earth visible from space. Digging up millions of tonnes of coal and shipping it through the heart of the Reef will put the entire ecosystem in danger.

The message from scientists is clear: we can have either coal or coral. We can't have both.

Please choose coral, not coal, and walk away from the Reef.
