Close the Gender Gap: Support Women in Science!

It's a fact: women are dramatically underrepresented in the scientific community. The most recent census data shows that 74 percent of people working in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) occupations are men.

This gender gap is detrimental to every one of us, as we need all of the world's best and brightest minds to move scientific discovery forward.

Closing this gap is possible—and we can start by:

- Eliminating biases and stereotypes about women in science
- Encouraging young girls to take an interest in science and math
- Improving early science education, including better teaching methods
- Supporting and mentoring women at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels
- Easing the financial burden that often accompanies academic and research careers
- Providing research grants that enable women to have both careers in science and families

We must take steps that will make these critical goals a reality, including prioritizing programs that support women in STEM careers around the world. Increasing the ranks of women in science is critical to the future of humanity and essential in tackling our world's most challenging issues, from curing cancer to protecting our planet. Add your name to the petition today to help ensure the world's brightest scientists have the resources they need to thrive, regardless of their gender!
