I'm a renter and I've moved 5 times in the last 9 years.
My first landlady suddenly moved back in, the second put up the rent by £800, and I left the third flat after the behaviour of our antisocial neighbours gave my disabled partner a breakdown.
Our fourth home was secretly sold to a developer after we'd lived there for 3 years. I found out when I came home to find a sold board in the front garden.
I can't afford to keep moving. Each time I have to borrow money from my family or use a credit card. The rent's even gone up in my current home after a year.
Moving so much means that I can’t plan for the future. It's giving me sleepless nights worrying about the debt and the fear of having to move again.
Nobody should have to move so often. 6-12 month contracts make life unstable & unpredictable. The Housing Minister, Gavin Barwell, needs to make 5 year contracts available to renters.
