Stop Animal Abuse at the Chicago Animal Care and Control Facility!

For decades the Chicago Animal Care and Control (CACC) facility in Chicago, Illinois has been mismanaged. Taxpayer-funded animal care workers have been known to neglect, torture and kill the defenseless animals who are surrendered there.

In May 2014, the facility accidentally euthanized a five-year-old rescue dog named Chance. The reason for his death? He wasn't put on a "do not kill" list. He was only at the facility for nine days before he was needlessly killed.

In April 2015, a dog named Missy was put in a CACC vehicle after an adoption event and forgotten there for five days with little food or water. She was barely alive when they found her. Although she is reported to have made a miraculous full recovery, the neglect demonstrated by trained professionals is appalling.

Right before Christmas, a video was released that shows the horrific strangling of a shelter dog by shelter workers. Spike may have been considered an aggressive dog, but that is no excuse for the way they abused him. He died about 30 minutes after the incident shown in the video.

Please sign the petition to let Mayor Rahm Emanuel know that people are watching, and we won't tolerate taxpayer-funded abuse and neglect of defenseless animals. We demand reform and oversight of this facility and others like it in the city of Chicago. A third party should be brought in for regular inspections of the facility and surveillance videos. Any shelter worker found to be willfully abusing or neglecting an animal in the facility's care should face animal cruelty charges and dismissal from employment.
