Keep Politics Out of Our Children’s Classrooms!

Two years ago, states across the country implemented a new way to measure how our students are achieving their academic goals and where they need help. Since adopting Smarter Balanced teachers and students have worked hard to adapt to the new test. The great news is that the second year of test score results show gains for a majority of our students.

Unfortunately, our state legislature is turning annual assessments into a political football. Now is not the time to change course.

Consistent, high-quality assessments provide a critical measure of students' academic performance and valuable information for teachers so they can better support all students.

Changing tests now would not only be disruptive in the classroom, but it will also cost our state millions of dollars to adopt a new assessment — funds that could be spent to support teachers and schools.
