5,165 6:36 am PDT, Jul 1   Anthony Garcia Raleigh North Carolina United States Being from the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where it is literally a crime to cut down our majestic oaks, I'm suprised that something like this is even up for discussion in the "City of Oaks" I hope this becomes reality, for the namesake of this city.
5,164 8:03 am PDT, Jun 29   Alexandria Jarvis Raleigh North Carolina United States Saw the article in the News & Observer. We have seen what its like to add one more office park, one more apartment complex. People should think about the vitality of the city long term.
5,163 1:12 pm PDT, May 28   Krystle Lambert Raleigh North Carolina United States There is no other public area in Raleigh where you can enjoy unobstructed views of downtown and a picnic amongst rolling fields. Not to mention savoring what Dorthea Dix stood for and which is still an area in my opinion that needs greater support from mankind and government.
5,162 1:53 pm PDT, May 2   Ian F.G. Dunn raleigh North Carolina United States

5,150 9:55 pm PDT, Mar 22 Mr. andrew justin dale raleigh North Carolina United States dix hill is one of my family's favorite places to go and play, run around with my daughter. we always drive through this property every time we are at pullen park, or on the way to the farmers market. i think this land stay a natural historic site in honor of a great woman in history. we need to preserve this park for the history of raleigh itself, there are diferent kinds of polution, water, air, .... ? and visual polution, and we dont want visual polution in our city, especially on this sacred land, it looks over the entire city. if anything i would like to see the park to be continued to be preserved, or used as a central park for this great city, nothing other than those i have mentioned. this is a piece of our raleigh history, and if the decision is made to make it a park, i still beleive that we should honor, the old dorthea dix hospital, and save some of these older biuldings aswell as the trees on the land, this land should not be touched too much. Raliegh would not be the same without it.
5,149 6:04 pm PDT, Mar 18   Sean Kosofsky Raleigh North Carolina United States
5,148 4:34 pm PDT, Mar 18 Mr. Michael Warholik Raleigh North Carolina United States Keep this open area of green space near downtown. Growth is wonderful, but not at the expense of public spaces like parks.
5,147 12:58 pm PDT, Mar 15   Valerie Hawks Garner North Carolina United States This is possibly the most important piece of land in Raleigh. It is beautiful and a rare and welcome sight among all the buildings sprouting up. It should not be spoiled or developed for any reason.
5,146 4:55 pm PDT, Mar 10 Mrs. Anonymous CALLAHAN Florida United States MY GRANDMOTHER DIED AT DOROTHEA DIX. I KNEW VERY LITTLE ABOUT HER, AND COULD NOT GET ANY INFORMATION. I WOULD LIKE TO VISIT THE PLACE WHERE SHE SPENT HER LAST DAYS.
5,145 1:14 pm PDT, Mar 9   Michael Casey Raleigh North Carolina United States This property has SO much potential... it must be done!

5,136 11:04 am PDT, Oct 2 Dr. Bill Schmidt St. Augustine Florida United States I agree with many others that this is a one-time opportunity. I wish Jacksonville (FL) had this kind of opportunity - don't pass it up.
5,135 1:34 pm PDT, Sep 25 Mr. Tom Moran Raleigh North Carolina United States Great cities have great urban parks and this Raleigh's last chance to set aside space for this purpose. A chance like this will not come around again and it is up to all of us to take advantage of the relocation of hospital to provide a wonderful gift for this, and future generations!
5,134 7:01 am PDT, Sep 17 Mr. Mickey Sartin Apex North Carolina United States In the early 90s when NCSU's Centinnial Campus was just getting started, we did a lot of mountain backing around the property which adjoins Dorothea Dix. I saw a good deal of Dix land and it is beautiful. It has the very best view of the Raieigh skyline from one of its parking lots. Don't waste this treasure. I'm sure no one in New York City would think about giving up Central Park today.

5,116 9:28 am PDT, Jun 15   John Lawlor Raleigh North Carolina United States Let's protect the little green space we have left in downtown Raleigh.
5,115 8:39 am PDT, Jun 10 Mrs. Donna Stewart Raleigh North Carolina United States i don't think the facility should close at all.

5,110 2:13 pm PDT, May 16   Anonymous Raleigh North Carolina United States Think green!....Raleigh has grown tremendously in recent years & has spread out far and wide. I really think we need open spaces (and good health care) and that we should do credit to Raleigh's name: "The City of Oaks"!
5,109 5:12 pm PDT, May 7 Mr. Anonymous raleigh North Carolina United States i don't think the facility should close at all. the one in butner is aweful. But it has ti close i would like to see a park there instead of another starbucks or something like that

5,106 5:33 pm PDT, May 3   Anonymous Raleigh, NC North Carolina United States We may not have good public transportation, or a downtown as vibrant as NYC, but we can still have our own Central Park. We don't need another cookie cutter development and huge developer profits. We need a park for everyone.
5,105 9:12 am PDT, May 1   Jill Wells Heath Raleigh North Carolina United States This is such a wonderful cause that all North Carolina citizens should support. It is a unique opportunity that we can not let get away!
5,104 2:47 pm PDT, Apr 28   Anonymous Fort Walton Beach Florida United States
5,103 5:27 pm PDT, Apr 26   Karen C Cary North Carolina United States A rare opportunity for a growing city to embrace a large multifunctional green open space adjacent to a downtown undergoing revitalization. Last change to have a huge central park space that is equally accessible to both North, South, East and West Raleigh residents, environmental justice at work. Don't let money and development pressures blur a beautiful green vision into more same old...same old red clay, cars, and homes for the wealthy!!!
5,102 8:53 am PDT, Apr 23 Ms. Anonymous Raleigh North Carolina United States Do we really need another subdevelopment? NO. Use this land as for something that will benefit everyone. We need more greenspace.
5,101 9:19 am PDT, Apr 19   Heather Leah Raleigh North Carolina United States

Create a World Class Destination Park in NC's Capital City

We have a once in a lifetime opportunity to create an amenity for North Carolina that will only grow in value for each generation, as our state continues to lose open space.

We support creation of a world class destination park, for the citizens of NC and visitors to the state, through preservation of the entire 306 acres of the Dorothea Dix campus in Raleigh, North Carolina's state capital.  The Dorothea Dix campus is situated near: the state's Legislature Building, Capital Grounds, Governor's Mansion, the NC Museums of Natural Sciences and History, the NC Symphony, Carolina Ballet, North Carolina State University, St. Augustine's College, Shaw University, Peace College, new convention center, office and government buildings, shops, galleries, restaurants, hotels and other downtown attractions.

A great destination park, located in our state's capital, will serve as an important calling card for the state, a place to showcase NC's great cultural institutions, rich opportunities for outdoor enjoyment, and commitment to public health and the environment.  The park will be a spectacular jewel, linking existing greenway systems to the east and west.  It will give a taste of the vast beauty awaiting those who explore our state further.  And be a great place for the state's residents and their children to enjoy on visits to the capital, and Triangle residents to share and enjoy with guests.
