Oppose Anti-Same Sex Marriage Constitutional Amendment

Sponsored by: Care2

The California Supreme Court has just confirmed what we all know in our hearts - that lesbians and gay men in California have every right to marry the person they love.

This is an historic moment - but there is a real threat to our joy looming in November. Anti-gay bigots are pushing to get a constitutional amendment on November's ballot to ban same-sex marriage. If approved, this amendment would overturn the Supreme Court's decision and send California into the dark ages in terms of equality.

We need to build momentum now to defeat this dangerous amendment. Please pledge to vote against a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and then ask your friends to do the same. As we grow this movement we'll let the media know that Californians want marriage equality for all!

MY PLEDGE:

I support the rights of lesbians and gay men to marry, and I am thrilled by the California Supreme Court's decision to affirm this fundamental right. I pledge to vote NO on any constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in California. I will spread the word about this dangerous amendment and urge all of my friends to vote NO as well.

Must we all think and act like like the "moral" and "ethical" Christian Republicans? This makes me SICK to be an American. Shame on you close minded people. You must live sad lives that you have to stick your head into MY bedroom...GET OUT!

Freedom means that everyone has the same freedoms, including marrying whom they wish to marry.

All people should have the right to marry the person they love and want to spend their life with. No one should have the right to deny someone else their happiness.

Because I feel that gays and lesbians should have the same rights as straight men and women.

With the divorce rate at nearly 50% in heterosexual marriages before the state court allowed homosexual marriages, it is hard to see how 'gay marriage' would destroy the 'sanctity of marriage!'

This is a civil rights issue. There should not be two classes of marriage.

It should be obvious to all those who think it through that the people who are applying for licenses for seme-sex marriages are decent, reliable citizens who are not in any way seeking to harm anybody else. Giving them the rights and privileges all the rest of us enjoy is the only fair and reasonable way for our government to operate.

It is totally beyond me to understand why ANYONE would so passionately deny a civil contract that brings happiness to others. Why is punishment and denial of civil, human rights such an obession? (Reminds me of those crowds jeering a 6-year-old girl trying to go to school in Arkansas some years ago) Sorry, I just don't get it.

I am sick and tired of hearing about the santity of marriange between men and women. Most of the major churches have condoned (and santified) marriages in which women had no say in the choice of their husbands, marriages that were made as part of someones empire building plans, marriages in which women were beaten and killed, etc. etc. Since the actions of so many churches make it clear that they never felt that the santity of marriage is very important, they should stay out of the debate and allow people who truly love and care for each other to marry. if they so wish.

Equality should be for ALL and not just a few. I totally support the Supreme Courts decision in California and wished other states were are SMART & courages as they are to stand firm on their choice on fairness.

I support EQUALITY, PERIOD! No ifs, ands or buts. In this country, you are entitled to freedom of lifestyle, and as long as you HARM NO ONE, neither should you be interferred with or harmed in any way. Give me a break. People are permitted to carry concealed weapons of death and other people are not allowed to live a peaceful life in in plain sight? think about it.

People are born with their gender, but it may not be in the right "body". Why discriminate for something that is inborn. Gay marriages should be legal, we are all entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happyness.

The Constitution protects and promotes the rights of all Americans, not just those approved by the religious right. Are the heterosexuals so afraid of the solidity of their marriage that letting gays and lesbians marry rocks their foundation? Well, my marriage is strong on it's own merits and gays and lesbians marrying the person they love has absolutely NO affect on my marriage.

Race, religion and gender should not come into play with regard to marriage. The contract of marriage is sacred and should apply to all equally. It is a bond between two people who pledge their love to one another. It has already been medically proven that gay individuals are genetically predisposed; therefore, we should be willing to accept it as an alternative life style. The religious bigots who are opposed to this measure should be deeply ashamed. They are prejudiced and it has always been my belief that God created us all equally. How can they look themselves in the mirror and claim to be upstanding creatures of God?

I fully support the Lesbian and Gay rights. Just because they are of the same sex doesn't mean they can't love. Don't take away their rights to marry and have the same benefits as heterosexual couples. They work and pay taxes. They should also have the medical plans offered and the same with filing taxes. Don't be a bigot!

Does it really require a reason? It seems so simple that I find arguments against it ridiculous.

if its love, let it be. I dont think love should have limits, it shouldnt at all and for all the people that dont support gays shouldnt be allowed to be in love if they dont support love!

People who are against homosexual, bisexual, transgendered and intersexed persons based solely upon their being homosexual, bisexual, transgendered, or intersexed are known as bigots. These people are no different than those against African-Americans simply because they're African-American. The arguments are as tiresome as they are invalid, and invariably they will link gays with child molestation and bestiality in much the same way as they would link ignorance, poverty and criminal behavior with all who live in large metropolitan inner cities. It is not gay marriage that would bring about any problems, but rather the dangerous hatred associated with the mind-set of such people that we have to truly fear. They would enact as federal law their own bigotry and hatred, and this simply cannot be allowed to occur!
