Oppose Anti-Same Sex Marriage Constitutional Amendment

Sponsored by: Care2

The California Supreme Court has just confirmed what we all know in our hearts - that lesbians and gay men in California have every right to marry the person they love.

This is an historic moment - but there is a real threat to our joy looming in November. Anti-gay bigots are pushing to get a constitutional amendment on November's ballot to ban same-sex marriage. If approved, this amendment would overturn the Supreme Court's decision and send California into the dark ages in terms of equality.

We need to build momentum now to defeat this dangerous amendment. Please pledge to vote against a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and then ask your friends to do the same. As we grow this movement we'll let the media know that Californians want marriage equality for all!

MY PLEDGE:

I support the rights of lesbians and gay men to marry, and I am thrilled by the California Supreme Court's decision to affirm this fundamental right. I pledge to vote NO on any constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in California. I will spread the word about this dangerous amendment and urge all of my friends to vote NO as well.

Please let other people be happy. We all have an equal right to live happy and fufilling lives as much as the next person. This is AMERICA let people be FREE to do as they choose if no one is harmed in the process.

I myself am Bisexual; and I have as many friends who have admitted to be Bisexual or Homosexual than Heterosexual. Being U.S. citizens gives them every right that a citizen should have; and preferences towards whom they love hardly matters. However, the fact that many people discriminate against them matters: It is unconstitutional, that people deny those with other ideals and preferences their own pursuits of Life, Liberty, and Happiness.

It's stupid to deny anyone their human rights in any way. It's wrong to force certain religious views on the masses as laws and mandates.

It's just the right thing to do. President Obama has linked himself to President Lincoln quit successfully. One of many attributes of Mr. Lincoln was the freeing of slaves. I'm am curious and hopeful that one of Mr. Obama's most liberating attributes can be 'freeing GLBT people' from the bias and unjust that in 2009 still exist. Liberating millions of men and women as Lincoln did.

Learn to love! everyone has a right to live their life the way they want. We're a free country and whether man or woman, everyone deserves love. Maybe the world would be less hateful if we could all learn to accept each other for our sexual preferences. "All you Need is Love"

Being Gay or Marrying the person you love in no way affects others or the way in which they live their life. We should be able to recieve the same rights as anyone else in this country!

I think that this petition needs to be updated... Sadly enough, Proposition 8 passed in the Nov. elections and now the battle to have it overturned is going on. The hearings could start as early as March and the results could affect the more than 18, 000 couples who were married since the Supreme Court ruling took effect in June of last year. We need to protect the rights of same-sex couples, not just in California, but all over the United States!!

Marriage is not about religion, it's about love! Unless those religious bigots would want the state not to recognize marriage due to the separation of church and state, they must remember that as long as marriage is a secular and state-sponsored institution, it should be freely given for every one and religion should not come into it!

Simple -- old-school religious conservative nonsense should not even apply (or EXIST) in today's world. Two people who love each other (regardless of gender) deserve the exact same rights as as hetero couples.
