Tell Obama: The Public Option is Not Optional!

Target: President Obama
Sponsored by: CREDO Action

During the presidential race, Barack Obama campaigned on a health care plan that included a public option. But lately, President Obama has been wavering on the public option -- one of the most important and most needed pieces of health care reform.

Recently, the Obama administration indicated that it might be open to passing health care reform without any provision for a public insurance option. In fact, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, went so far as to say that the public option was not an "essential" part of reform.

Stand up for real health care reform and tell President Obama to fight for the public option today!

President Obama:

When it comes to health care reform, the public option is not optional. You campaigned on change and on a health care plan that included a public option.

[Your comment will be inserted here]

But aside from single payer, a health care bill without a robust public option is just more of the same. If you are sincere about supporting the public plan, tell Congress and the voters that you will not sign a bill without a robust public option similar to Medicare.

Sincerely,
[Your name here]
We signed the “Tell Obama: The Public Option is Not Optional!” petition!

You have to have public opinion, and care about what we think. You will be the ruination of our country if this goes through.

Ever since you said that a single payer system would be too disruptive, I have been totally disappointed and disillusioned in you. To me this is just a political ploy to continue to protect and preserve this broken corrupt system we have now. The insurance , pharmaceutical, hospital, and other medical industries should not be involved in healthcare reform. They have had more than 50 years to do the right thing. All they have done is collect ever increasing premiums with higher deductibles, then deny care causing unnecessary suffering and Death. The concerns of doctors and patients should be the priority in a health care bill, not the amount of profits for the industry or the amount of contributions for politicians. No public option is not change I can believe in, sir.

Don't give up on us now, if you don't stand strong big money insurance companies are still going to win and if that happens what were we fighting so hard for so long for.

Insurance rates are skyrocketing while most of us are in financeal trouble. Many can't get needed health care and just go without.

I am very fortunate to have health insurance through my employer. I have relatives, some who own their own businesses, who are not so fortunate. I have relatives who have small children who cannot afford medical insurance. This is frightening. I consider it very important that people be given a choice between a public plan run by the federal government and private health insurance. Those who rant about socialism should be reminded of Medicare, Social Security, Farm Supplements and the many other benefits that are received from our government. The welfare of the common good should supercede all other considerations.

We need a strong public option, caps on premiums, and NO triggers please.

Please Mr. President! My future is in your hands, and if the public option is nothing more than a rewording of the heath care we have now then thousands of Americans will have to take the option of "no health care."

I voted for you and was hopeful you would create new health care that is similar to Universal health care, thank you and may God Bless You always...Sincerely, Shelly Pinks.

The public option is already a compromise. Single payer is the real answer. We can't compromise any further!

A public option is necessary because it keeps the insurance companies more honest and competitive and will make health care overall more affordable for all Americans. Now, the insurance companies have strict control and health care costs are astronomically high, and this needs to stop. Reform must include a public option because it makes sense.
