Protect People at the Border

Arizona's new immigration enforcement law has polarized the state and the country. While a federal judge temporarily blocked the most controversial parts of the law, as Ariz. Governor Jan Brewer said "This fight is far from over."

A few dangerous fringe groups have threatened to take the fight one step further. One armed Neo-Nazi leader patrolling the Arizona desert has even threatened to kill any immigrants he sees crossing the border.

Just days before the court ruling, President Obama arranged for 1,200 National Guard troops to report to the southwest border to assist federal and local law enforcement agencies. It's an important move to deter any threats of race-based violence. Regardless of their legal status, every person has the right to safety.

Tell President Obama that the Federal government needs to be ready to protect everyone at the Arizona border area from potential violence and racially-motivated attacks.
Dear President Obama,

I am writing today to urge you to do everything possible to protect everyone at the border in Arizona from violence in the wake of the passage of S.B. 1070 and Judge Susan Bolton's decision to block the most controversial parts of it.

There is no question that Arizona's immigration enforcement law, S.B. 1070, has ignited passions and polarized the state and the country. It has also fueled violent rhetoric from some anti-immigrant fringe groups. One Neo-Nazi leader patrolling the Arizona desert has even said he'll kill any illegal immigrants he sees trying to cross the border.

All people, regardless of their legal status, have a right to safety. I commend you for sending 1,200 National Guard troops to the Arizona border. This is an important move to deter any threats of race-based violence.

Please do everything in your power to protect all citizens from violence and racially-motivated attacks at the border.
