Tell the Fish and Wildlife Service: "Save Monarch Butterflies from Extinction"

  • by: Michelle S.
  • recipient: Dan Ashe, US Fish and Wildlife Service Director

Nearly a billion Monarch butterflies have disappeared, according to new figures from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.

What’s killing the monarchs? Widespread use of herbicides have destroyed the milkweed plants that these delicate and beautiful creatures rely on for food, nurseries, and homes during their six-generation odyssey from Mexico to Canada.

The Fish and Wildlife Service has launched emergency efforts to restore milkweed for monarchs, but these beloved butterflies need lasting protection.

Help ensure that monarch butterflies are around for our children and grandchildren. Sign the petition urging the US Fish and Wildlife Service to list the monarch butterfly as an endangered species deserving of life-saving protections under federal law.

Dear Director Ashe,

As someone who believes in protecting the natural world and its amazing creatures for future generations, I strongly urge you to propose listing the monarch butterfly as an endangered species deserving of protections under the law.
