Pledge to Take Part in Walk to Work Week 2014

Walk to Work Week (12-16 May) is the perfect event to get you on your feet. National charity Living Streets will show you how to feel the benefits of walking throughout the week.

  • Better shape - Walking for just 20 minutes can burn up to 100 calories
  • Clearer head - 88% of people experience an overall improvement in mood after going for a walk, according to a study by Mind
  • Team spirit - Join your team and compete with colleagues
  • Hidden treasures - Discover a new shop or lunch stop right on your doorstep
  • Fatter wallet - Save your travel fare and walk instead
  • Carbon buster - Walking to work every day for a year would save 17kg of carbon dioxide

Maria Costa, a 32 year old teacher is a big fan of walking and is looking forward to Walk to Work Week. "Walking whispers some of my brightest ideas; it keeps me healthy and slows me down in this fast paced city life. Most importantly it helps me to see the glamour in the most simple things that we ordinarily overlook. Walking is my cheap and cheerful guiding light."

Pledge to take up the Walk to Work Week challenge and you'll be able to use the free online tool to count miles walked, carbon saved and calories burned. You can also view live leaderboards for your area and workplace so you can compete to be top walker. You can even raise money for your favourite charity! What's not to love?

Pledge to take part and Living Streets will be in touch so you can create your online profile and get walking!
