Save the Northern Quoll and 74 Other Endangered Species in Kakadu!

A startling 75 species face the threat of extinction in Kakadu, Australia’s largest national park. Some of these native mammals, including the Northern Quoll, are found few other places on Earth. In fact, over the past 30 years, many animal populations in the region have declined by as much as 90% -- and others have disappeared entirely. It’s time for the government to take drastic action to save these rare and threatened creatures.

The Federal Government has recently added $750,000 in annual funding to the park’s budget to protect these vulnerable species, but they will need time to recover. New conservation programs will take at least 10 years of sustained effort and funding to be effective -- and we’ve already seen, again and again, how big business and political rivalries can sabotage the funding of environmental projects.

Over the course of only two years, Tony Abbot and members of his government have sabotaged renewable energy projects, tried to remove protections for Tasmania’s forests, and allowed coal companies to expand their operations perilously close to the Great Barrier Reef. How do we know that long-term conservation efforts in Kakadu won’t suffer a similar fate?

Please sign and share this petition to encourage the Australian government to publicly commit to carrying out the full 10-year plan to save the quolls and other threatened species in Kakadu!
