In The Cove, a team of activists and filmmakers infiltrate a heavily-guarded cove in Taiji, Japan. In this remote village they witness and document activities deliberately being hidden from the public: More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat.
The majority of the world is not aware this is happening. The Taiji cove is blocked off from the public. Cameras are not allowed inside and the media does not cover the story. It's critical that we get the word out in Japan. Once the Japanese people know we believe they will demand change.
Send a letter to President Obama, Vice President Biden and Japanese Ambassador to the United States Ichiro Fujisaki urging them to address this issue. Everyone who signs the letter will be able to have their name displayed in a widget that will be posted on top social networks, web sites and blogs in Japan. The widget will link to actions people there can take to make a difference.

As a world leader, we look to you to end the needless slaughter of Japanese dolphins. All living creatures are part of the planet's eco-system on which we all depend. You need to send out a strong message that the Japanese behaviour towards dolphins is totally unacceptable on all levels, from the cruelty inflicted on these innocent creatures to the sale of survivors that will live their lives in a habitat totally unnatural to them.

Brutality against these incredible creatures and the poisoning of people deceived into consuming mercury-laden dolphin meat is cruel and wholly unacceptable.

I thank the people involved in making The Cove for their passion, commitment and global citizenship and for making me aware of all of the issues addressed in the film. Please stop this brutal dolphin slaughter and please work towards finding sustainable practices in the fishing industry as well as in the export of live dolphins.

As a Floridian and ecologist I am acutely aware of marine sealife issues. There are many good reasons to outlaw the inhumane treatment or human consumption of porpoises. Please stand against this action in any country.

This issue is not simply a companion issue to the environmentalist "Save the Whales" campaign. This is an issue of human health; for the thousands of children and adults in Japan and around the world who eat fish. This is an issue of dishonesty and bribery; in the actions taken by Japanese fishers to garner support by providing financial incentives to poor, developing nations with representatives in the UN. This is an issue of ecosystem stability; when one key species is hunted unsustainably and without warrant, other species in the ecosystem may suffer great consequences.
Please listen to the requests of this nation's citizens. Please do your part to stop these atrocious acts.
