Ask Congress to Give Workers RESPECT

Target: US Congress
Sponsored by: American Rights at Work
Millions of working men and women struggle every day to provide for their families. It's hard enough to form a union because of anti-union retaliation; workers shouldn't have to worry about government interference, too.

But last year, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that companies can reclassify large swaths of workers as supervisors, stripping away the rights of millions of workers to form or join a union.

The very agency that is supposed to protect a worker's basic right to form a union has once again taken away those rights.

America's workers deserve the right to have a say about their working conditions, benefits, and job safety. Only Congress has the power to restore those rights.

Please write to your Members of Congress and ask them to co-sponsor the RESPECT Act (H.R. 1644 and S. 969) and give workers the respect they deserve.

Dear [Decision Maker],

Millions of working men and women struggle every day to provide for their families. It's hard enough to form a union because of anti-union retaliation; workers shouldn't have to worry about government interference, too.

In 2006, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) ruled that companies can reclassify large swaths of workers as supervisors, stripping away the rights of millions of workers to form or join a union. The NLRB made this decision despite the fact that the new "supervisors" don't hire, fire, evaluate or promote the workers they supposedly supervise.

America's workers deserve the right to have a say about their working conditions, benefits, and job safety. You can help by co-sponsoring the RESPECT Act (H.R. 1644/S. 969), legislation that would clarify the meaning of the term "supervisor" and fix the mistake of the NLRB.

[Your comment here]

By supporting this important bill, you will be preserving the rights of millions of Americans. Please stand with us in this cause and become a co-sponsor of the RESPECT Act today.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

Capitalism is a wonderful, empowering thing but when it means sacrificing the rights of dedicated, hard working employees - it falls short of its merits. Every working person in this country should have a say about their conditions, finances, etc without feeling like the are a dime a dozen employee. I work for non profit that helps people with special needs. There is no employee protection from the organization's shady ways to save money by financially screwing employees. We are not a dime a dozen - we are few and far between. People who have already have spoken of a union, have mysteriously not returned the following year. I live in Pittsburgh - the birthplace of unions and workers rights. It is my duty as an American citizen, and a hard working one at that, to sign this petition and eagerly encourage members of Congress to co-support it.

Corporatizium in Amerika is now reaching critical mass. Big Business call all the shots because they have all the money. Money looted from employees by shifting healthcare costs entirely to the working families and they pay NOTHING. Money looted from pensions that no longer exist, reduced 401 K contributions, etc. Corporations have bought an paid for the politicians we have eleced to represent us. Big Pharma has taken over the education of medical doctors, staffed the FDA with their people to fasttrack exceedingly profitable drugs to market realize quicker profits. The people of the country have allowed this to happen and God knows what else large corporations are doing that are not as obvious. Corporations do not hold the status of a human being. They will not starve to death like a person will, they will not become homless. They only cease to exist. Why then do they hold so much power to influance our government when they cannot even vote? Remove the ability to contribute to campain funds and influance vote. Their status should be no diffenent as that of the Church and State.

Employees work hard and undergo stress every day. They struggle. Why? To make administration look good. Employees are people too. Workers should be given credit for loyalty, experience and hard work. Respect workers for there is no "I" in team. Together we achieve more!

Without our workers all across the United States, our country's economy would be in serious trouble. It is hard enough in this day and time to make ends meet. Prices are going up all the time. Workers should not have the pressure of loosing their job because they want to practice freedom of speech! Stop 60's type discrimination now!! This is an outrage!! And senseless! Everyone has something to contribute!! I know this is not a great feeling. I should know! I have also started my own mission to stop discrimination and a hostile working environment. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-60s-type-discrimination-in-the-work-place-now Please help this gentleman and any cause that allows this!!! This is just not right.

Boost worker morale, which emans productivity, and satisfied workers. Costco is one such company with a strong policy to "Take care ou our Employees." Costco is a good company to work for. Costco is an example to follow.
