I learned so much more about doing research, the importance of historic preservation and even inter-personal skills by doing interviews, than I ever would have learned by doing a Science Fair project or English term paper. NHD brought my family closer together, as we all went on field trips to many libraries and historical sites.

History Now! Congressional Earmark for National History Day

Representative Ralph Regula and Senator Tom Harkin

We, the undersigned, support a Congressional earmark for National History Day, Inc.
National History Day should be funded at the level of other education programs such as National Writing Project and Center for Civic Education, which today receive a $12 million annual appropriation.

The program reaches over 700,000 students, their families and some 40,000 teachers annually. The NHD national office and most state programs operate without government appropriations. A federal earmark would enable the program to help improve state programs and provide students essential skills that will help them at home, in school, at college and in the workplace.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
