National History Day (NHD) is a nonprofit education program that provides a model solution to the challenge of what Congress has called the “growing historical illiteracy in America.” NHD Should receive a Congressional earmark to improve history education in America.
Our children deserve a good education, rich in American and World History. Tell the Congress to ensure that it will happen!

NHD brought my family closer together, as we all went on field trips to many libraries and historical sites. | |

| 914 | 5:07 pm PDT, Oct 17 | Dorothy B Wear | United States | To support and further the study of history is one of the most important subjects taught to our children. How do we know what not to repeat, like a Hitler, if we do not impress on our youth why this is not be tolerated again. The National History Day is vital to our youth and a great way to keep history alive without being bored. What I would have given to have had such a chance when I was a history student in the '50's. I urge ALL representatives to support the History Day and maybe we won't have to spend millions on a program, "No child left behind". | |

History Now! Congressional Earmark for National History Day
We, the undersigned, support a Congressional earmark for National History Day, Inc.
National History Day should be funded at the level of other education programs such as National Writing Project and Center for Civic Education, which today receive a $12 million annual appropriation.
The program reaches over 700,000 students, their families and some 40,000 teachers annually. The NHD national office and most state programs operate without government appropriations. A federal earmark would enable the program to help improve state programs and provide students essential skills that will help them at home, in school, at college and in the workplace.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
