Guarantee Every Child Has Access to the Services They Need

Target: U.S. Congress
Sponsored by: Children's Defense Fund
For too long, big insurance has gotten between families and their doctors. Insurance companies have the power to decide who gets coverage, choose what medical treatment they'll pay for and set the prices for coverage.

Meanwhile, working families face impossible barriers to obtaining health coverage imposed by insurance companies that make enormous profits and pay their CEOs and top managers fat compensation packages.

Who's pulling the strings on children's health?

Tell your Members of Congress to enact real health reform that will put families back in control of their children's health care and guarantees every child access to all medically necessary services to maximize their children's health and development!

Dear Decision Maker,

As your constituent who cares deeply about the health of our nation's children, I want to ensure that health care reform makes children better off. Even with the CHIP expansion, 5-6 million children will still have no coverage and millions more will be underinsured. Children have unique health and developmental needs that must be addressed in health reform.

[Your comments will be inserted here]

I urge you to include the following health coverage provisions for children (which are currently contained in the All Healthy Children Act, H.R. 747) in any health reform legislation:

- A national eligibility level of at least 300 percent of the poverty level and the ability to buy in at affordable rates for families above that income level.

- A comprehensive benefit package that allows children to receive all medically necessary services.

- The simplification of the system, including the implementation of processes such as automatic enrollment, and the removal of all bureaucratic barriers so that children can get enrolled and stay enrolled.

Sincerely,

In addition to the elderly, children are the most vulnerable members of our society; and, society has an obligation to provide adequate, affordable health care for them.
