Protect the Endangered CA Tiger Salamander and Wildlife in Southeastern Madera County and Stop Sprawl

  • by: Carla Neal

The threatened and endangered California Tiger Salamander is protected by State and Federal Law. By Stopping Urban Sprawl and the Austin Quarry in Southeastern Madera County, by forcing the Board of Supervisors to not permit the projects which negatively impact the species habitat, we can make a positive change towards the Sustainable future of Madera County.  The proposed Austin Quarry also threatens the region with significant and unavoidable air pollution and watershed losses leading to the degradation of our land, home values and environment. Construction cannot commence in the area without the quarry and by signing this petition, people are helping to potentially protect the habitat of endangered Tiger Salamander and other threatened wildlife. Consequently, the actions of the people in this county to sign this petition and voice concerns can lead to increasing protections of our air quality and watershed resources, by protection of critical habitat of endangered species. Residents today can take action to ensure a sustainable tomorrow for Madera through insistance of wiser land use planning decision from our elected officials that is ecological and of the people who care and demand change.

Dear Madera County Board of Supervisors,

The proposed Austin Quarry is a substantially damaging project that is designed to commence the sprawling developments in Southeastern Madera County.  The degradation of land at the site of the Austin Quarry with area residential developments will lead to greater endangerment of the protected California Tiger Salamander species, other threatened wildlife.   Additional negative impacts will include significant watershed loss affecting existing residents (and future residents)in the Bonnedelle and Madera Ranchos areas.
