To develop and form a Conservation Park and ecotouring to protect natural resources, wildlife and the Seneca White Deer.
Save the Seneca White Deer
The former Seneca Army Depot is now closed after many decades of providing munitions for various military campaigns to help keep American free. In the 1950’s, the first white deer were seen within the Depot and due to military protection, proper habitat management and an annual, managed hunt, today constitute the world’s largest herd of white deer. This crown jewel of a natural resource, if properly managed, can bring significant economic growth to Seneca County and the Finger Lakes.
Seneca White Deer (SWD) was formed in 1999 as a 501© (3) not for profit organization. SWD is composed of professionals who have a great deal of experience in conservation, education, marketing and public relations. SWD’s mission is to protect the unique natural resources and military history of the former Depot for all the people of the world to enjoy. This is truly a unique location and opportunity which can be used to educate the public about the value of wildlife and habitat and at the same time bring economic relief to Seneca County via tourism. The business proposal from the Seneca White Deer Inc group (SWD) promotes conservation and ecotouring to protect the natural resources of the Depot.
Unfortunately, the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency wants to alocate only 1,500 acres for the SWD and Conservation Park. SWD proposes that Ecotourism is the only proposal which can both improve the economic climate of the Finger Lakes while preserving, for the world to see and enjoy, the largest herd of white deer on our planet.
