CalTrans, End Your Harassment of the Homeless

Homeless people are the must vulnerable members of our society. Most of them are simply victims of ill fortune or bad decisions. They have rights just like anybody else. In chilly weather, they need warm places to sleep, but shelters fill quickly. They risk theft of what few possessions they have.

Your treatment of the homeless is not just cruel and callous, it may be illegal. Seizing their belongings and destroying them without warning is inexcusable. One man says that his cat was crushed this way.

Instead of making live harder for the homeless, leave them alone as long as they are doing no harm. Better yet, meet with advocates for the homeless for a real solution that helps them and California transit. This nation's war against the homeless has to be stopped. Surely you can find a way to help, rather than harm, those who have reached rock bottom.

We the undersigned ask that you change your policies for dealing with homeless people. The most vulnerable members of our society need assistance, not harassment. Please stop seizing and destroying what few possessions they have. Please work with advocacy groups to find a real solution that will benefit the homeless and respect their rights as human beings.
