WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT TO STOP THE CRUEL ABUSE OF HORSES USED FOR TRANSPORTATION UNDER TERRIBLE CONDITIONS. WE FOMENT A PROJECT TO ERADICATE THE HORSE AND DONKEY CARTS IN COLOMBIA.

We urgently need aid and the pressure the both national and international organizations for the protection of animals, to defend these horses.

Although the project proposes the gradual eradication of this type of vehicles and urges the creation of alternative programs sponsored by the Mayor and the local governmental offices, the proprietors of these vehicles are against the idea and they do not offer any reason.

The rise in poverty levels and unemployment are often used as the perfect excuse for the use of these vehicles, however many of these horses are used inhumanely by poorly educated people that are both neglectful and insensitive.

Our main concern is the ill treatment of horses in these countries for these purposes. Our case is based on real data and the reasons are undeniable, some of them are:

  • 1. These vehicles still work throughout the country, in both small and large cities in Colombia, including the capital, Bogota (with more than seven million inhabitants), hence, horses are forced to maneuver and compete with automotive vehicles, be in the streets behind cars inhaling fumes and so on...
  • 2. horses " are rented generally " by their proprietors, thus forcing the animals to works even of 24 hours to the day, and often are limited in time enough to adequately eat or drink.
  • 3. These horses are often are harmed by their owners, with cruel whipping, and other punishment. (photographs and videos are in our files). The proprietors of Zorras. they even unleash his rage on his horses.
  • 4. Horses must work in unhealthy conditions - ill, old, and even pregnant mares (or just post foaling) are forced to work.
  • 5. In many cases, the horses that are not able to work because they are old, or too ill, are sold to the illegal slaughter houses where they cruelly killed after years of faithful service. The contaminated meat is illegally sold to the poor people and the health conditions are not monitored.
  • 6. Most of the proprietors of these vehicles they do not pay attention to the rules of the traffic, a behavior that normally gives like result cloggings and traffic accidents in where not only the horses but also other people are themselves affected
  • 7. Although the previously mentioned complaints are not applicable to ALL of the proprietors of zorras, some of them have recognized publicly that it is truth in many cases (70% according to them; in our opinion, much more that that).
  • 8. If we took into account that there are more than 11,000 horse carts in Bogota only, it is overwhelming the number of noble animals that are undergoing mistreatment every day, every hour!
