Believe in Zero: End Child Mortality

Once again, UNICEF and their partners have announced a spectacular piece of news. The number of preventable child deaths worldwide has dropped from 24,000 to 22,000 just this month.

That number is down from 25,500 four years ago, and means that, since 1990 -- when 34,000 died every day -- UNICEF and its partners have helped cut the global under-five mortality rate by 1/3.

That means that each day, two thousand more children are playing with friends, making their mothers laugh, and dreaming of all the exciting things they will do when they grow up. And UNICEF is proud to have been a part of that.

From measles campaigns in Pakistan to emergency therapeutic food in Ethiopia; from tetanus vaccination in Indonesia to well drilling in Sudan; from hurricane relief in Haiti to anti-malarial bed net distribution in Nigeria -- UNICEF's work is having a huge impact.

But we can't stop now. If enough people make the world's children a priority, 22,000 daily child deaths can become 12,000... then 6,000... and one day, zero. We believe in zero. Please sign the pledge that you believe in zero too.
