3,838 1:29 am PDT, Apr 30 Mr. Ari R. Kolman 41 Yes but After just a week I had cut down with Ed, half of what we were smoking.. It’s so exciting and wonderful. Especially since everyone should already know that cigarette smoking causes cancer, and that Second-hand smoke alone contains over 4000 toxic chemical compounds, 50 of which are known to cause cancer, and many of which have no known safe level of exposure. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention indicates that second-hand smoke is attributed with killing thousands of adult non-smokers annually, and not only the one‘s you smoke near but in the town, blocks & streets near you as well. That’s scary not to mention what it does to the animals… Especially your sweet loved ones that are with you all day or all night.. “There have been a number of scientific papers recently that have reported the significant health threat second-hand smoke poses to pets,” MacAllister said. “Second-hand smoke has been associated with oral cancer and lymphoma in cats, lung and nasal cancer in dogs, as well as lung cancer in birds.” She said a study conducted recently at Tuft College of Veterinary Medicine found a strong correlation between second-hand smoke and certain forms of cancer in cats. The number of cats with mouth cancer, also known as squamous cell carcinoma, was higher for those animals living in smoking environments versus those felines living in a smoke-free home. In addition, cats that lived with smokers for five or more years had an even higher incidence of this type of oral cancer. “One reason cats are so susceptible to second-hand smoke is because of their grooming habits. Cats constantly lick themselves while grooming, therefore they lick up the cancer-causing carcinogens that accumulate on their fur,” MacAllister said. “This grooming behavior exposes the mucous membrane of their mouth to the cancer-causing carcinogens.” - http://www.cavyrescue.co.uk/cgi-bin/news.pl?record=87 go to this page for even more information about the Companion Animals and the cigarette smoke we smoke at our homes with them.. YES still an organization that tests & experiments “The Affects Of Nicotine” On Innocent Animals, in such barbaric ways that if seeing how they do it doesn’t make you want to cut down to quite or quite all together, something is wrong with you.. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted. I’m sickened and disgusted.

3,820 7:17 pm PST, Jan 5 Ms. CF Tseng 28 I don't smoke. I never knew these cruelty were done to these non-smokers until this petition came up. If you want to know what happens to humans who smoke, go test on them, not animals. This is outrageous treating animals this way. Animals are not to be tortured.

You porbably wouln't feel very good. Why someone would ever do that to an inocent animal is beside my comprehension, people who do that are cruel and should think how they would feel.
3,816 7:25 am PST, Dec 7 Ms. VIVIAN meadows 49 YES and the testing on animal's will not make me stop, SO WHY DOES IT STILL CONTINUE.? I know what I am doing to myself, please don't make animal's suffer anymore. Yes I have signed petitions about this before. Forcing these innocent animal's to smoke is horrific, I already smoke and I am aware of what it can do to me, so why still make the animal's go through such torture?.

3,807 3:46 pm PDT, Oct 18   Anonymous 26 No it is a horrible unhealthy habit and second hand smoke is worse!! No I sure didn't I think it is awful and should not be done, the animals do not smoke so why should they have to suffer especially for smokers. People have been smoking for so long now they all pretty much know the side effects and what it can do to their health and yet people still continue to smoke I say instead of testing on animals test on the smokers!!
3,806 9:38 am PDT, Oct 13   raina mcmahan 27 used to, not anymore, thanks to knowledge of this testing!!! yes, thats when i QUIT smoking! Thanks Philip Morris, because i know many people wouldnt of quit smoking, until they found out how disgusting and cruel you are, and i tell everyone i know that smokes!! Oh, and American spirit was BOUGHT by PHILIP MORRIS, so dont be fooled into thinking american spirit is any better, you are STILL supporting PHILIP MORRIS AND ANIMAL TESTING! I know many folks dont know this. If you must smoke, roll your own, you can even buy filters, but quitting is better for you, your health and the animals. Philip Morris is disgusting and should be ashamed, there are MILLIONS of people that smoke, test the effects of nicotine on THEM!
3,805 8:08 pm PDT, Oct 8 Ms. meredith conrad 18 yes, i smoke natural american spirit. they do not conduct testing on animals. yes, i did. i feel that animal testing is completely unnecessary and an insult to science.
3,804 1:41 pm PDT, Oct 2   Bridget I. 23 NO About 5 minutes, yes. HORRIFIED! As my animal sits next to me!
3,803 9:02 pm PDT, Sep 20 Ms. Courtney Church 29 Formerly No There are no justifications for this. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that smoking is bad for you. Why make these poor animals suffer when we already know the outcome and the effects? How do these people sleep at night? This is not science...it is torture!
3,802 5:52 pm PDT, Sep 18   Kevin Wilde 15 no yes I feel that this is one of the worst testings done to animals. The result of these tests are obvious, the animals are going to die. Useless testing like this is discusting. We must stop companies from these kinds of testing at once.
3,801 6:48 pm PDT, Sep 17   Samantha N. 22 Yes. Unfortunately, yes. This is the stupidest thing ever....like, hello!! Smoking is bad, we're well aware of this, are we not??? What more do we need to know?

Cigarette and smoke testing on animals

Even though U.S. federal law does not require that tobacco products be tested on animals, thousands of animals are still kept in restraints like smoke masks and body holders and subjected to horrific experiments every year.

Experimenters have taken large grants from cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris; from government agencies, including the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Institutes of Health; and even from the March of Dimes, to inject animals with nicotine, force them to inhale smoke and addict them to tobaccoo.

Examples of their smoking experiments on animals include :

  • Cutting holes in beagles' throats through which the dogs are forced to breathe concentrated cigarette smoke for a year.

  • Inserting electrodes into dogs' penises to measure the effect of cigarette smoke on sexual performance.

  • Strapping masks to the faces of rats and monkeys and permanently restraining them to force them to breathe cigarette smoke constantly.

  • Forcing dogs to be on mechanical ventilators and chronically exposed to cigarette smoke.

  • Restraining Rhesus monkeys in chairs with head devices and exposing them to nicotine and caffeine to determine how caffeine and nicotine affect breathing.

Experiment after experiment attempts on even more  in rats, mice, hamsters, lambs, dogs, cats, monkeys, and other animals need to be put to a stop at once! This is so disgusting and horrible that animals are forced to go through this. Do your part and help to put this cruel testing to a stop!
